Rating: - Not so good as French Leave
I bought this book together with French Leave after watching the Series. French Leave was fantastic!
Coming Home however didn't have the same authentic feel to it, I even dare to say this looks like a ghost writer or at least a very influential co-writer.
The recipes are none the less nice, the text however isnt't; I haven't counted exactly but this is one over exclamation marked Book!!!!
I'd say buy French Leave and leave this one to save money and buy one of Hugh's books (preferably the meat book....:)

JBR's book Return of The Chef is just perfect - the recipes really are faultless - no need to practise a dish before serving it to friends - they all work and are wonderful - another please!
Rating: - This is an excellent cookery book
helpfully and clearly divided into major food sections. Although on first inspection some of the recipes may look complicated, the directions are clear and concise. I have tried a lot of the recipes from this book and each one has turned out perfectly and as a result it is the cookbook to which I turn first for inspiration. Moreover, it provides details on how to cook the staples (pastry, dressings, sauces etc.) An excellent book for both the beginner and the accomplished cook.

I had never really noticed the name of John Burton Race until by chance I switched on the television one night to view a programme called French Leave. I was immediately a fan of the programme, not only because I love everything about France and its food, but because here was a programme presented by a new face with a refreshing new style. For me that programme was a great success so it was only natural that I would avidly await John's new series, Return of the Chef.
As someone who has one great regret in life, that he did not train as a chef, I enjoy nothing more than seeing how it is done - so what a treat Return of the Chef has been. In fact enjoyment of the programme persuaded me that I should have a look at the book Coming Home, ... Read More:
