In these irreverent variations on well-known themes, the ugly duckling grows up to be an ugly duck, and the princess who kisses the frog wins only a mouthful of amphibian slime. The Stinky Cheese Man deconstructs not only the tradition of the fairy tale but also the entire notion of a book. Our naughty narrator, Jack, makes a mockery of the title page, the table of contents and even the endpaper by shuffling, scoffing and generally paying no heed to structure. Characters slide in and out of tales, Cinderella rebuffs Rumpelstiltskin and the Giant at the top of the beanstalk snacks on the Little Red Hen. There are no lessons to be learned or morals to take to heart--just good, sarcastic fun that smart-alecks of all ages will love. Customer Reviews

 Rating:  - You'll need to be tough to cope with these nursery talesJon does it again for the more reluctant reader as well as the already-hooked. Fairy tales were meant to threaten and warn but in many 'pretty' versions even the demise of the pigs is blood free and smiley. Read about these well-known but not-so-well-known characters again and share them with an adult. Don't forget to hold their hand and leave the light on at bedtime! Rating: - A Great Big Pile of Mischeif!This book is just a mischevious game for kids, it grants you access to the mechanics of the book, and manages to poke fun at all the conventions. This is the antidote to the Stepford kids! Please read it with your children, or read it to other peoples children, or read it yourself. Thanks John and Lane! Rating: - A wonderful book, one of the best.I first knew of this book when my teacher read it to us. As soon as I had finished my homework, I went onto the Amozon, and found I was two years out of the age, I entirly disagreed with it- I laughed almost all the time it was read to us. It was also the work of a genious how the text was in different colours and sizes. Usuly, I hate fairy tales, but this gives them a knew twist. Wonderful book. Rating: - how funny this book isthe best bit of this book is the stinky cheese man always run and said you never catch me because I am stinky cheese man. i liked it becauase it is funny, it made all of us laugh when mr stikles read it Rating:  - Terrible book!!! Don't waste your money!!The only reason I bought this book is because of the great reviews listed by Amazon.com. I think parents should re-look what they read to their children!! This book is horrible.....in my opinion it teaches children to make fun of each other. I DO NOT recommend this book. |
