I bought and read this book when it first came out. It lead me on a spiritual journey which will soon be completed upon my conversion to Judaism. While Ms. Greenberg may not have started out with that intent upon writing the book, I can only imagine what other lives this book has had a similar impact on. A "must have" in any library!

BLU GREENBERG HAS WRITTEN A WONDERFULLY WARM, WITTY AND INFORMATIVE BOOK THAT SOMEHOW DRAWS YOU IN SO MUCH SO THAT PUTTING THE BOOK DOWN IS NO LONGER AN OPTION. I HAVE READ MANY BOOKS ON JUDAISM AND CONVERSION AND THIS BOOK JUST SEEMS TO SUM JUDAISM UP. ITS NOT SO MUCH THE RELIGION BUT THE LIVING - HOW YOU LIVE THATS MOST IMPORTANT AND A TEACHER OF THE CALIBRE OF BLU GREENBERG MAKES THE LIVING EASIER. A WONDERFUL INSIGHT INTO THE LIFE AND LIVING OF ALL JEWS; NOT JUST ORTHODOXY. I HAVE ENJOYED EVERY CHAPTER OF THIS BOOK BUT I HAVE TO SAY THE CHAPTER THAT HAS MOST INSPIRED ME WAS THE CHAPTER ON THE SABBATH. I CHALLENGE YOU TO READ IT AND NOT BE CONVERTED TO BLU GREENBERG.

Blu Greenberg is the kind of Jewish mama I wish I'd had. She's knowlegeable about Jewish observance but sensitive to controversial issues and careful to address the concerns of those who weren't raised in a traditional Jewish home. This is the same Blu Greenberg who was open-minded enough to accompany a delegation of Jews to visit with the Dalai Lama in India, and at the same time was careful to remain kosher on the trip! "How To Run A Traditional Jewish Household" takes you step-by-step through the intricacies of daily Jewish living. Have a question about Shabbat observance? Blu Greenberg has the answer. "Islands in time do not appear on their own," she points out, and so we are provided with detailed instructions covering everything ... Read More:
Rating: - A delightful introduction to traditional Jewish practice
Growing up in a Classical Reform home, where observance was minimal, Conservative practice considered dated and pointless, and Orthodoxy completely alien, I would never have expected to read this book, much less love it. But Blu Greenberg's writing describes modern Orthodox practice with such warmth and charm that we have actually taken on new observances after reading it. Furthermore, even practices we are unlikely to adopt have become understandable and something to appreciate. Highly recommended!

Observe and honor the basics of running a Jewish household, as retold in this easy-to-read book. If you've ever wondered why/when or how many of our traditions began, you'll enjoy, believe me. It provided wonderful insights into some of the traditions we observed in my parents home and has brought new meaning to observing them anew. Try it. You'll like it.
