 Rating:  - Useful addition to standard textsCommon Ground is a breath of fresh air for churches that wish to try something new that is more radical than the sometimes vacuous choruses and songs published in 'Mission Praise' and 'Songs and Hymns of Fellowship', for example. A wide variety of sources have been drawn on - there are songs from many countries, traditions and denominations - to bring a selection that will bring something new and valuable to any congregation. My only disappointment is that there is not a melody edition for congregations. Rating:  - This is a must-have hymnary for forward looking Churches.This is a hymn book which will meet the needs of those congregations which are tired of relying solely on the words of 19th Century hymn writers for their praise. The words of most of the hymns and songs have a freshness and vitality missing from so many of the standard hymnaries and the music has been imaginatively chosen to provide a balance between the majestic and the reflective, the more traditional and the modern. Relying heavily on folk inspired music, the songs are, on the whole, easy to learn and speak to people in the times in which they live rather than in the idioms of an age long past.
