The book itself is very readable and not a dull academic tome. It considers the evolution of houses from mere shelters to permanent, weather-proof structures, and would be of interest to anyone from the mildly curious to the architecturally obsessed.
If cruck framed buildings are your thing then you really should read this book. You could use this book to help you to try and date a building but along the way you will also gain an insight into the history of that method of construction. The book does also look at other materials - stone and cob walling, roofing materials such as thatching, slate and stone and so on.
