Amazon.co.uk Review: Kathy Lette's Dead Sexy is a dyspeptic account of the reality show from hell; music teacher Shelly is entered by her pupils for the computer date of a life-time--marriage, honeymoon and a large cash bonus if she and her husband make a go of it. The trouble is that every single thing the highly attractive Kit Kincade tells her is a complete lie--his mane of blond hair is a wig. Shipped off with him to a tropical island in the middle of civil war and natural disaster, and surrounded by television folk of an untrustworthiness which makes even Kit look savoury, Shelly is hopelessly confused, not least by her own feelings.
Tightly plotted and stuffed with witty one-liners, Dead Sexy is what we expect from Kathy Lette--a lightweight romp that is no stranger to deeper feelings. The complex lies the characters tell are not always entirely opposed to the inner truth of their emotions--there is a real distinction made here, at times a snobbish one, between those characters who lie out of habit and those who fib out of necessity. --Roz Kaveney

Rating: - WORST BOOK EVER READ!
I can't believe this got published!
The main character 'Shelly' is utterly unlikable, the relationship between her and 'Kit' ridiculous (not to spoil the "plot" but they end up together DESPITE only spending a week tgether and arguing everytime they see each other. The plot itself is ridiculous, becoming more and more far fetched as the book goes on.
The sex scenes are completely cringeworthy; as are many of the descriptive metophores used throughout the book. Don't even bother. The only thing this book offers is an example of how NOT to do chick lit.
Rating: - Utter Rubbish!
This is the worst book i have never laid my hands on! I gave up at chapter 5 and literally threw the thing in the bin!! It is wtitten in a style of 'one liners' but there are that many that it is complete over-kill and becomes so tedious! The characters are unbelieveable and the lead character 'Shelley' is just plain annoying! Really, really terrible!!
Rating: - Utter Rubbish!!
It is not very often that I find a book so bad that I cannot finish it, however, after persevering for approx. 130 pages, this book irritated me so much I threw it straight in the bin. The storyline is all over the place, the characters are awful and I am not a prude by any means but found the language crass and over the top.
Rating: - A Poor Effort
I was so pleased that Kathy Lette had finally released another book that I just picked this straight up off the shelf and failed to read the blurb or have a flick through - big mistake! The plot is weak, all over the place and there were so many characters popping up throughout I found it a real chore to keep up. It was impossible to care about the characters, especially our 'heroine' Shelley, who's endless jumping between being a man-hater to desperately wanting to bed the bloke who treats her like something he stepped in was just plain confusing! Kathy Lette has tried to squeeze so many unbelievable scenarios into this book that she has actually made it extremely boring and her usual caustic wit and sarcasm is either lost amongst the ... Rating: - ABSOLUTELY DIRE
Totally misleading- from the back it sounded like a light hearted beach book, and the first three or so pages seemed funny enough.
After this it descends into cliche, after cliche- the most appaling being:
"Shelly thought they must have been near an airport, but then she realised it was just her heart taking off."
This is not even sattire- this is a genuine attempt a portraying emotion! Who writes that?!
Totally far fetched, and frankly quite ludicrous if you ask me. Nothing flows and the writing seems stuttery and rough. Very difficult to read the jumbled paragraphs and make sense out of the insane plotlines. NOT WORTH THE EFFORT! SORRY!
