Synopsis: This guide should be useful for anyone who wishes to cook healthy, interesting dishes for a small family or just for themselves. It contains over 150 recipes for everyday meals that involve the minium preparation and fuss to make, and is the aimed at anyone who wants appealing alternatives to their normal menus or convenience foods. It is also suitable for those who are shopping on a budget, but who want a variety of fresh, delicious dishes for everyday eating. In the tradition of the Leith cookbooks, each recipe is simple to follow and clearly explained, and all the recipes have been tried and tested by Leith's School of Food and Wine. The book also contains practical information on subjects, such as shopping for small quantities, buying wine and storing it once it has been opened, and saving food by cooking and freezing. The recipes are easy to prepare: for example, blue cheese risotto, pan-fried cod with mustard and dill cream, chicken breast with cumin and mint, turkey burgers with grilled vegetables, lentil shepherd's pie, roast red peppers with goat's cheese, simple strawberry ice cream and pears savoyade.Whether it is a straightforward meal for any day of the week, or a dish for a more special occasion, this book should be useful for those cooking for one or two. Polly Tyrer is the author of "Party Pieces", "Chocolate Cakes" and (with Prue Leith) "Entertaining with Style".

Rating: - Fantastic
What a good cook book, living on my own I find it annoying to have to size down most recipes with this book I don't have to! The only problem is deciding which recipe to cook next!
Rating: - Consistent and tasty
Never fail cook book. Consistently scrummy food and easy to follow plus v.useful in that recipes serve 1 or 2. Don't let lack of pictures put you off - they truly will work!
Rating: - Excellent for the single person or couple!
As my partner and I have different tastes, it was great to stumble upon this book...we can have two completely different meals, without much fuss over measurements and getting recipes for four or more down to 1. And when we are eating the same thing, done to 2. It's also great that the couple or single person can have fresh, fast food that is not just beans on toast, but tasty, unique and good. Excellent book...a great gift to those who live on their own, love to cook, but find it wasteful unless giving a dinner party!
Rating: - My cooking bible
Having tried several recipe books with mediocre success, I came across Leith's Cooking for One or Two. At last a recipe book that inspires me and that provides new and tasty ideas, whether just for me and my husband, or when I double up the quantities, fantastic for a dinner party. There are a couple of classic dishes that we have now made our own!
