Rating: - raw food, but not for the UK
On the outset, this is a well-written, well-presented book, lots of photos, lots of tips and info, especially with regard to nutrition. However, before purchasing this book, I had no idea this author was Californian, and the fact is, this has a great bearing on the recipes themselves. Many of the ingredients are either just not available in Britain, or only available in the major cities, or are so expensive that it makes the meal only fit for special occasions. Also, many ingredients have travelled from far corners of the globe, thus contributing towards a heavier carbon footprint than I would like. So, for those who wish to tread lightly upon this world, I would recommend this book only to those living in warmer climes, where the produce is locally available. For Britons, I would look to other books, to British authors that are sympathetic to local grown produce and not that which has been globe-trotting twice round the planet.
Rating: - So far all so good
SO far everything I have made from this book has been wonderful. The bread recipe is amazing and really does only need 3 hours dehydrating. The mango cobbler recipe is delicious and the colour pictures in the middle really make you want to eat so much more healthily.
Rating: - At last a raw food book I can get my teeth into!
I have tried several raw food 'cook' books of late - they all had something to offer, but they have been dominated by dips and sauces rather than the 'solid' food I was seeking. This is well illustrated, easy to follow, doesn't rely too heavily on a dehydrator (but a food processor would be useful) and generally brighter and more accessible than others I have read, still lots of dips, but much more besides.
An instant favourite.
Rating: - Magical food
My family enjoys this raw food book. Everything we have made from it has turned out wonderfully delicious; all the recipes are straight forward with easy to find ingredients. We use this book so often
we call it 'the bible'.
On a very cute note, I have a son (20 months) and he adores Ani. Most children have cartoon characters they look-up to, but he has Ani (and many other raw food innovators). He often asks for the Ani Phyo
book. He likes to read it, look at all of her pictures and tell us what she is doing/making. He'll take the book, sit at the table with mixing bowls, measuring spoons etc and "create' Ani's recipes.
She is even a bedtime favourite for reading!
So thank you for all the beautiful food you have inspired in our house and bringing so much joy to my magical little boy.
