Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - How Veggie Food Should Be...
Wow! Just looking at the pictures is enough to want to make you book a flight to Umbria to eat at the hotel from where this cookbook originates.

The recipes are fabulous and reasonably easy to follow - although they do take some careful reading just to make sure you get everything right - and the photos are superb. But also there's some nice commentary about the ingredients and the philosophy of the hotel etc which gives you a real feel for the passion that they have about the food they create.

This is a fabulous book and will be an inspiration to me for ages.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - the best vegetarian food in the world
Having been amazed at the food at Montali over a number of years, we always hoped Malu and Alberto would write a book - and I'm so glad they have. Malu's style of vegetarian cooking is truly brilliant and worthy of Michelin stars. The book itself is lovely and beautifully laid out, giving you a real insight in to the place as well as the food. I have found the recipes easy to follow with fabulous results, and no wonder, they trialed the recipes for 2 years to check they could be replicated at home. I've already given the book to friends as gifts - meat eaters or not - they all love it. Good luck with the book Alberto and Malu - I hope it brings you the recognition you deserve!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Beautiful Book...THANK YOU FOR WRITING IT!
I've been to Montali many times over the past 8 years. It is by far one of my favorite places in the world. It is such a beautiful location, staffed by warm people, owned and run by a wonderful, charming family (Malu, Alberto and their son, Damiano).

My two brothers (including a professional chef) and I "discovered" Montali in 2002. I was looking for a place near Cortona so that we could easily attend the annual Steak Festival. We are NOT vegetarians...we love meat! Meat or no meat, the food at Montali is some of the best food we've ever tasted! INCREDIBLE! And, such attention to detail. The hosts are so energetic, so gracious and so kind.

I am so grateful I found Montali. I love it so much that my wife and I celebrated our July 4th, 2005 wedding there, which is featured in the book.

I bought the book on Amazon.co.uk and had it airmailed to the U.S. It was worth every penny. The recipes are well-written and the photos beautiful. Memories flood back with each page I flip. I have not read it all yet. I'm going slowly, in order to savor each page... each recipe and each photo.

It is great they've written this book and we can try to recreate the wonderful food we've eaten at Montali. THANK YOU MALU!!!!!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Beautiful book - even a treat just to read and look at the pictures
I have been a vegetarian for nearly 15 years now and own at least a hundred veggie cook books, but this one has just become my favourite. It is a large format book (A4) with many beautiful photographs accompanying all the recipes. One of those books that you enjoy taking to the sofa for a read and a look through rather than just to the kitchen.

The recipes in here are quite time-consuming and very chic, but worth every minute. But the layout is fantastic - each recipe is divided into separate little sections so that you can easily do everything step by step which I found very useful for those rather complicated dishes that include a base, a sauce and a main "bit." This layout also lets you improvise and leave out some bits if you like...for example, most pasta recipes in this book call for freshly made pasta which I don't always have the time for, so I find it very convenient to have the sauce in a separate section rather than having to read the whole recipe to find the part I am looking for. And although MOST of the recipes are quite complicated and time-consuming (perfect to really wow your guests with on a Saturday night) there are some quick and easy recipes for pasta sauces, tarts and risottos as well, whcih have all without exception been delicious. The book has even converted me to aubergine with its original recipes which really surprised me as I used to have a particular dislike of aubergines for many years, and despite countless other veggie books and recipes, nothing else has managed to convince me that an aubergine CAN taste great...until The Vegeterranean came along.

I think the only down side of this book is that it does require a number of specialty ingredients which you won't get at your local Sainsbury's. They have started to stock '00 flour' but there are quite a few other products that I can't find anywhere in the small town where I live. But I have been able to substitute, although this always leaves me wondering whether the dish would have been even better if I had followed the original recipe. Despite this, I would really recommend this book for its creativity with food and I think that anyone who is bored of Typical vegetarian food will love everything in here.
