Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Still flawed, still slow and certainly NOT the best or cheapest
What you get out of McAfee is a all-rounder but very flawed Security-Suite including bog standards: antivirus, antiphishing, antispyware and a personal firewall plus the nice addition of a backup-and-restore feature that's been standard on many Security Suites for a while (Norton are yet to catch up on this). Setup is still a slow and laborious task, something McAfee just won't recognise. Once up and running there's nothing too confusing on the control panel and it's nice that McAfee havn't messed about with this too much over the years.

How much the basics have actually been improved I can't say. Not wishing to infect my own computer I'll cite some sources. According to CNET labs testing McAfee is very good at hunting down Mal-ware and does the job it's supposed too well (better than Norton). It does NOT, however, do anti-phishing well and in an age where fraudulent emails are increasing (and getting more cunning be the day) McAfee really should have addressed this. Having tested the scanning process myself the time it takes McAfee to do a large scan is still pretty poor and slowed my computer down to an almost stand still.

So you're getting a bit of a mixed bag really in terms of performance. McAfee's daily updates are also very basic (others offer it hourly, as it should be). I should also mention (and this is personal preference) that the Site Advisor feature is still the biggest waste of time I have ever come across (both useless and annoying).

One of the biggest faults with McAfee is their very poor support. They offer the "Virtual Technician", which is normally next to useless as it (most of the time) just directs you to FAQ's. Then you're onto online chats with technicians, not something that's particularly well thought out. The chances of actually getting to talk to a real person are very slim with McAfee. Oh and you can forget about a manual too. While others include a good-sized manual (Kaspersky in particular) McAfee decided nobody would really want to know how their product works.

So, if you can't see past the big two (McAfee and Norton) then McAfee does win hands down on both price and what you get. However, there are Security-Suites out there much cheaper and better at performance than McAfee so that's why I'm giving it only 2 stars.

My advice, try Bit Defender, Kaspersky or even the free AVG for just virus protection

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent.

I have installed McAfee without a hitch on my desktop
running windows xp, with 3gb ram.
I was using AVG (free version) and PC guard, and I had
to uninstall AVG to continue with this installation.

I also use Adobe Photoshop and have not, as yet noticed
any slow down.

I have used McAfee Internet security on my laptop for over
two years (got it free for three years,) without any problems
until recently, when things got rather slow, and I am not
sure whether this is being caused by McAfee or not.

I find the included site advisor very useful when making purchases or
registering with online companies that I am unfamiliar with.

For now I am very pleased with this product running on my
desktop, but if it did start running clunky like my laptop
then I would consider uninstalling it.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Less than pleased
After reading all these reports on McAfee Internet Security Suite I decided to buy the product as most reports are good.It installed o/k and worked o/k apart from slowing my computer down to a snails pace.I partly accepted this as I reconed it was doing it's job.As I edit video useing Adobe Premier Pro I then tried to open up premiere. It took 10 minutes to open and when I tried to open a project in P.PRo it froze,it just would not open. The same thing happemed with Photoshop CS2 and when scanning in slides from my scanner it took ages.
I contacted McAfee technical help and they suggested it was the Adobe products that was causing all the problems. As all was well before installing McAfee I decided to uninstall it.Guess what all is now fine, computer is back to normal and Adobe software is running fine.
I have now installed the free version of Clamwin Anti virus, which was reconmended.Every thing is still runnig fine.If any problems arise from this then I will revert back to AVG which I was using before McFee.
Hope this can help some one who may be editing Video

Rob.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - utter utter useless RUBBISH!
if only i could give this less than 1 star.

it failed to install one of the 10 "features" it boasts, the virus scan no less, and ironically it tells you to reinstall the package. Unfortunately, it fails to inform you that it doesnt allow more than a single attempt to install and not only that, on a reboot ( which it asks for ) you notice that it didnt actually install ANY of the "features" and you are left with a useless disc and out of pocket. In addition, the customer support are less than useless and their website support downloads dont even work.

i will never let mcafee darken my door ever again.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - so far...
If only for the pleasure of dumping Norton, which rendered my computer virutally unusable. Installed without fuss and just gets on with it. So far...
