- All round good performer.I decided to branch out after years of being a Norton man and have no regrets in the 2 weeks I have used Kaspersky. All my programs run smoother than before, but Kaspersky slightly messes with my AOL program making it think it restarted, but with no performance problems. While some reviews complain about the slowness of the initial scan, I was pleased with the thoroughness of the scan and Kaspersky found a few suspicious files that Norton had apparently missed. I installed Kaspersky on a laptop and two desktop computers and found it's best to remove the old anti-virus/Internet security program before installing the new. Rating: - Bit complicated for novices, but it is a really good program and well worth investing a bit of time in to learn. I put it on after being totally unhappy with a competitor in a yellow box - I have reviewed it too - after only three months. I completely removed that with the relevant tool, installed this and was up and running in about ten minutes. So far I am very happy. I love the virtual keyboard that is used to put passwords in. So good, as is the preview window for emails that allows the deletion of any suspicious and unwanted emails before they are downloaded to the computer. I think Kaspersky have covered everything in this program. So far I am more satisfied with this than I have been with any other IS program I've had, and I've had a few recently. Rating: - Consistently goodI have been a convert to Kaspersky (from a well known "yellow box" provider). I am delighted - it seems to exert much less strain on my system, it is very easy to set up and seems extremely logical to manage. Additionally, it seems to train itself in terms of "judging" what is spam and what is not. This 2009 version includes a "virtual keyboard" which gives additional security for on-line banking etc. All round a real winner and unreservedly recommended. Rating: - One of the best out thereI have used a variety of Anti Virus products over the years, Norton (before it became bloated and memory hungry), AVG, Sophos and on. I recently re-built a laptop and put this on it, it is very very good no noticeable slow down on networking or general access speed. It appears to be very good at spotting threats as well. I have a different version (2008) on my wifes laptop and my file server, this will now be upgraded to 2009. Very good software, very good price one of the best and it seems to work very well with Vista and XP so that makes a very nice change as well. Rating: - You can trust KasperskyKaspersky Internet Security 2009 is the latest offering from Kaspersky designed to tackle the do-it-all anti-virus, anti-malware, firewall and identity protection program suite that is popular these days when protecting your computer on the internet. The 2008 suite had rave reviews and was frequently topping anti-virus and internet security package charts. The reasons why are clear: because it's a program that runs upon startup, uses low system resources and has a high detection rate for malware. Does this 2009 version improve upon this previously already brilliant program? Yes, I suppose it does. I've been on and off Kaspersky products for various reasons, and have time and again come back to using Norton Symmantec programs to deal with my lust for a fast computer free of viruses. Of course, those who are quick to point the finger and are ready to slate Norton without necessarily trying it for themselves are going to be groaning and telling me to go with Nod32. Or some other obscure program that neither I nor you have heard of. However, take it from me, KIS 2009 is a lot better than Norton Internet Security 2008 and Norton 360. I know from actually using all three programs. So what does this suite offer? A top-notch virus, malware, general baddies detection rate with updates frequently released and easily downloadable through the press of a button. Background running with pretty low processor useage (about 19,000kb normally), make that about 28,000kb in a quick scan, though set it up for a full-system, deep cleaning scan and you're in for a bumpy ride (my quad core with 2gb RAM struggled with anything else) which took it's sweet time on about 750gb total hard drive capacity. Generally, it's not bad at about 4-5 hours doing this, I'm sure Nod32 may be quicker, but more thorough? I highly doubt this. And yes, I've used this antivirus program too, quite briefly. I haven't done any testing really to see if Kaspersky has a better all-round detection, but I do believe it improves upon Norton and Nod32. There are files on my PC which were simply cast aside by Norton IS 2008, in spite of having the last virus definitions. Hmm... It's not all great, it must be said. The interface for example is not quite as easy to use as Norton's or Nod's, but is... OK. I say this because upon encountering some minor infected file which I knew was clean, I found it hard to tell the program not to neutralise the damn thing, other than simply leaving it to begin with. Of course, it just kept telling me my system was at risk until I found the file listed in the program somewhere and told it to ignore the threat. I do get the feeling that this program just wants to deal with it itself, even after telling it to inform me of all threats before acting. Sometimes clicking on the red or orange box that pops up upon finding a malicious file shows more options like skipping the file, which is want I want, but for some reason this doesn't always show. And what's more, skipping the file simply skips neutralising it then, but keeps it in the potential threats list. I found myself in dire need of a button which basically says: "Thank you for telling me it might be dangerous, but please just shut up and look in the other direction." Five star review then? Well... yes, actually. It's a damn decent program for keeping your system as safe as it needs to be and having a good software firewall is always desirable. In my opinion it's a better choice than Nod32 and Norton IS, mostly for detection rate and generally reliable usage with low resources. It'll work a treat on either XP or Vista, and with a 3-desktop licence, you're free to install it on 3 computers (I've got it running on one here and one in another location fine). If you want a reliable solution that'll protect you from all the nasties out there from trojans to cholera, this'll keep you safe. |
