Rating: - TERRIBLE
What a major disappointment this game has become. pro (up until number 6) was really only 1 of 2 games i used to play. after eagerly waiting for 2008 and hearing the terrible reviews, for the 1st time even i didn't buy the game.
so a year later and the top guys at konami talking about how they have sorted the problems and have made online...........playable, i once again was eagerly waiting for 2009 to drop and guess what...... i was disappointed.

This game will sell by the bucketload, but Konami are still not giving the faithful the game they deserve. Last years Pro Evo was embarrassingly awful from a franchise with a real quality pedigree. This time Konami attempts to put right all the flaws from the last 2 dire installments.
It has always been about gameplay with Pro Evo, and apart from a few niggly AI problems, the gameplay is much better. Nearly good enough to overlook all the other flaws - Online is still unplayable, the menus are still ugly, too many unlicenced teams (yes it matters), "Become a Legend Mode" is poor etc
Pro Evo 2009 is good for a kick about, until you get bored and dig out the old PS2, load up Pro-Evo 4(or 5), and feel your smile return. With Pro Evo 4, I used to get up early so I could get a few matches in before work, often making myself late. The only reason to get up early with Pro Evo 2009 is to get it back to the rental shop.
Rating: - Oh dear - the end of PES love affair!
I've been buying, playing and loving pes since I can remember. This new serving is excellent offline, the graphics are great and the gameplay is immense apart from the lack of kits, names stadium etc I couldnt fault it!
Then I decided to have a bash online, mistake isnt the word, its shocking the game jumps, the screen splits, the keepers dont know what day of the week it is and the ball bounces off players as appose to being controlled etc. etc.!
My review in short - terrible! I put mine on ebay, my advice buy fifa though it pains me to say it as a die hard pes fan its a much better offering!
Rating: - It's like playing Pinball...you don't know which direction the ball is going to go!
Even die-hard PES fans must be frowning.
I do not normally get involved with the Fifa v PES battle as I would rather spend my time playing games, but felt I needed to convey my thoughts on this years incarnation of PES2009.
I have played PES since I can remember and this is top of the list.
Problem is that the list I refer to is a list of games I wish I had never bought.
It is truly a dreadful effort, or lack of it, and has gone backwards in nearly all areas.
The main thing I look for in PES is playability, sadly this now has gone.
Once a lovely fluid game is now a clunky mismatch of poor graphics, passing errors and
Poor play. Sound effects have also taken a step backwards. For example. the sound of the ball being kick is so unrealistic and shabby, it sounds like someone kicking an empty cardboard box around their front room.
The only thing that appears to have been improved is the music content.
The addition of the Legend mode does not make up for it.
Relying on the core code of game play for too long has come back to hit them where it herts. It now needs to be built from scratch, as implementing tweaks here and there does not fool anyone any more.
I can't tell you how annoyed I am. You wait until the next incarnation of your favourite
Footy game comes along and ouch! Feels like I have had the football whacked in my nether regions! I never buy Fifa but I need to play a decent football sim and have to say that PES is now not top dog.
Konami have scored an a couple of own goals in the annual Fifa v PES competition.
Lets hope they can come back with a better effort next year.
One hopes that they look at the people who actually play the game and all the comments made and bring it back to the top.
Rating: - LAGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
They've failed to sort out the lag AGAIN!! I don't know a great deal about the inner workings of computer games but how the hell can games like C.O.D and G.O.W be played online with very little lag at all(if any!!) and games like this lag like a big pile of steaming....!?!? I returned PES2008 the day after I bought it because the lag was so terrible and I will be returning this aswell. I really enjoyed playing PES 6 online on the PS2, but playing this is a bit of a chore really. You might aswell watch a demo and toss a coin to see who wins because a lot of it comes down to pure luck depending on whether the lag does you a favour or causes your opponent to score. I've won a few games and just felt no satisfaction because I know I just got lucky during particularly 'laggy' moments. Basically, if you enjoy playing PES online and you're undecided as to whether to buy the game as you are still wondering whether it lags or not well trust me..... Avoid it because you will only be disappointed. Boycott this nonsense until Konami stops treating us like big '£' signs and starts providing us with the finished product we are paying them vast amounts of money for!
