This book is divided into two parts: The first part is 'Richter in his own words'- a semi autobiographical account/collection of anecdotes, narrated by himself, from his fascinating life and career, ranging from his interactions with Prokofieff to playing in Stalin's funeral. It is not incredibly thorough as are traditional biographies, yet it does give the reader an impression of Richter's immense and bizarre personality. The second part comprises Richter's own notebooks which he kept for the last ten or so years of his life. These contain his own reviews of concerts and records, including himself as well as many other artists.
