Books : Codex Imperial Guard (Warhammer 40,000)

Codex Imperial Guard (Warhammer 40,000)

by: Andy Chambers, Pete Haines, Andy Hoare
July 31, 2003

This codex is done really well compared to some of the others I have seen. The information is very good but organising your platoons is extremely confusing, I reccomend asking at your local games workshop if you are a begginer. Anyway, the codex is well laid out, and has a certain individuality to it that sets it aside from all the other codexes. It is set out like a modern day millitary document. If you are thinking of collecting the imperial guard, you must have one thing: NUMBERS, the Imperials strength lies in its amount of men. In a 1500 point army you can shoulder over 100 men plus tanks, HQ and some fast attack. can you please say if this review was useful to you or not. all in all this is a really good item and it is essential to any ... Books : Star of Damocles (Warhammer 40, 000)

Star of Damocles (Warhammer 40, 000)

by: Andy Hoare
July 30, 2007

The continuing tale of a family of Rogue Traders and one that's proven to be a hit. We come to expect tales following the warriors of the Emperium yet here we get the battle of the hulks with Ship to Ship combat skillfully blended with political intrigue, religious persecution and above all following the family trying to make a profit. A tale to entertain and will be interesting to see how the adventure develops with characters that have human traits allowing the reader to develop a hook into each of them. It really is a page turner and as such is one that will keep you more than amused.

Books : The Thirteenth Black Crusade (Warhammer Novels (Paperback))

The Thirteenth Black Crusade (Warhammer Novels (Paperback))

by: Andy Hoare
October 14, 2004

If you are looking at The Thirteenth Black Crusade there are two possibilities. a) You are a Warhammer 40.000 fan and are looking for a source book on the colourful background to the Wh40K Universe or b) you are lost.

I awaited this book with anticipation since I considered Battle for Armageddon a great publication. But where hopes are high the disappointment can be great, and that is what happend.

Both books share in common a review of a world wide gaming event brought to life through fiction, but while Battle for Armageddon was a collection of information from (supposedly) various sources this book is written as if it comes from one source - a high ranking Imperial Guard Staff Officer. This makes the book much more limited ... Read More:

Books : Rogue Star (Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader)

Rogue Star (Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader)

by: Andy Hoare
August 17, 2006

Andy Hoare is a Games Developer for Games Workshop and this is his first full novel. Rogue Star details Rogue Trader Lucian Gerrits' attempts to revive his families' fortunes by dealing with worlds in the Damocles Gulf area of the Eastern Fringe. Gerrit must deal with sibling rivalry between his children and a couple of mad Imperial Commanders making his life difficult and you have a good story. The book could be a bit better written but as this is Andy Hoare's first book that is understandable. The book also has a tendency to over explain some things but I would think that this would make it more accessible to those new to the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Generally Rogue Trader is a good start but I hope Andy Hoare improves his writing style in ... Read More:

This background book for Warhammer 40,000 focuses on four battles by Imperial forces, each of which is meant to detail a different style of conflict. The battles detailed are a Dark Eldar raid on the mining colony of Naxos, the Imperial invasion of Lyubov during the Sabbat Crusade, the Raphanon rebellion and the Black Crusade of Jihar the Lacerator. Each of the battles detailed show the Imperium at its best and at its worst be it from the cold and calculating tactics of the Iron Snakes space marines on Naxos to the inevitable fate of those Imperial Guard units that face the horrors of Chaos.
