My family does not eat meat, but we do eat fish, and quite a lot of it. The techniques are explained really well, and the recipes always work well. Together with the Leith's Vegetarian Bible, this book has now become my main source of recipes and ideas. I highly recommend both to fish lovers and semi-vegetarians (like me).

The presentation of the material is beautifully done and attracted immediate attention from my teenage children. After reading about the rationale for wartime rationing and scientific basis for the way the rations were determined, they set about trying the recipes. The recipes work well and are filling and healthy. Grandparents who had been teenagers themselves during the war recognised and enjoyed the dishes.
This marvellous book gave my children an excellent set of recipes and a grounding in an important part of their grandparents' social history. If I had a criticism it would be that it could have contained more recipes.
For interest I compared the wartime diet with the current recommendations of the British Heart ... Read More:

From realistic traditional dojo duels to jackie chan fights; this book has it all. Steve Jackson Games makes most of the time books that are well worth the $$, even if you use another gamesystem. Martial Arts is no exception. In it is a good description on the different styles and schools, along with rules to make it as realistic or as cinematic as you want. Included are ways to adapt it to other settings/timeperiods/genres. If your players are into karate flicks or martial arts it is a great asset. If it is for integration into the game, without any real interest in martial arts, i think it could slow the game down alot. The rules are not always as clear as it could be, esp with the point costs, but all in all it is a very good aid with lots of ideas and info.
