Chapter One The Wizard of Oz is a classic. I know it, you know it, Pink Floyd fans know it. Have you heard about "The Dark Side of the Rainbow"? Avid fans of the band discovered if you play the album and the movie at the same time, starting Dark Side of the Moon right after the MGM lion has finished his third roar, the album appears to have been written as a soundtrack for the film. Coincidences include the jangling bells from "Time" hitting right as Almira Gulch (also known as the Witch Lady) arrives on her bicycle, and the guitar jam of "Great Gig in the Sky" fitting perfectly with the tornado sequence. A bit of history, some art and a lot of detective work and bingo - an absolutely riveting read for the whole 357 pages. Scott-Clark and Levy have managed to write a fantastically thrilling book based on meticulous research. Truly astounding in places, I had to keep reminding myself that it was non-fiction. What is it they say? Truth can be stranger than fiction, it can be more surreal, more enlightening and more poignant too. Levy and Scott-Clarke's book is an excellent depiction of Pakistan's nuclear proliferation programme from the late seventies till this day. The book is excellently written, flows, is well documented and at times reads more like a thriller than a journalistic account of stockpiling and secondary market trading in nuclear weapons. The book also describes the lack of oversight undertaken by changing US governments and leaves the reader in no doubt that this was deliberate and largely driven by the desire to please Pakistan and retain her as an ally in the war against first the Mujahedeen and then the efforts against the Taleban and Bin Laden.

Liza takes a summer job at the Tides Inn to make some money, get a tan on the hotel's private beach, and find true love.
When she arrives at the Inn to report for duty things, as expected, do not go as planned. Instead of working as a front desk clerk she ends up on the housecleaning crew. The dorm that the employees stay in is not nearly as nice as she had hoped. And her former friend that she knew from vacationing in the area with her family acts like Liza is a dead bug on the bottom of her shoe. SO INN LOVE is a cute summer read, although at times predictable and it seems to have an abrupt ending. It's a great book to read while lying in the sun, though!
