My son loves the backyardigans songs & I thought I was buying just that, a bayardigans book with the music to play along as you read. This is the case but the music is just instrumental plinky plonk with no relation to bayardigans at all. Saying that we still read the book & my soon still plays with the player. Yes, this book is good for the basics; saying sorry, please, thank you. But that's it. If you want a good childrens book about manners, this is not it.
It's also very American. If you're happy with the Americanization of the British childhood then you might be more tolerant of this book than I. Is "You're welcome" really necessary after every "Thank you"?
That said my daughter does love it, but if it's Dora then that's a given anyway. I'm rapidly losing the fight against Dora, she is ubiquitous.
