Too many gardening authors take time out to wax lyrical about seasons and the joys of blackbirds and dew on your runner canes. Their books end up as a decent afternoon's read, but difficult to use when you're trying to work out what's going wrong with your kohlrabi.
This book is different. Veg are listed alphabetically with clear sections on selecting varieties, planting, looking after, harvesting and cooking, with a troubleshooting guide covering disease, pests, storage and the like.
No nonsense, everything you need and easy to find.

I have the 2002 edition, but it still only offers imperial measurements. While this may be an irritation for some, I do find inches and feet so much more appropriate for practical matters like gardening!
An excellent book with a great deal of practical advice on planting, mulching, pruning, picking, disease control, etc. I would prefer just a little more detail on these matters, however, and perhaps a slightly less comprehensive list of varieties - many of which are not availabe even from specialist nurseries.
But why change much - how much can gardening change?
A great book at a good price.Ideal for the first time greenhouse owner aswell as experanced owners. It has advice on what to grow, pests and how to treat them.great advice all-round.

I keep this book very close to hand and have taken it with me to many peoples gardesn to help identify trees.
A must for me when it comes to tree's location and pruning if any.
I had a tree with an unusal bark feature but I soon found the cause.

A great book to have with you in the garden if unsure of any plants,
Contains all the information on garden flowers/ soils and pests and there prefered growing enviroment.
What I have found is that many glossy papers advertise flowers and they look great but after a quick read through of this book it becomes clear that they wouldnt be ideal for my garden or that they need a lot of TLC.
A lot of information in a very clear format.

In terms of value for money this publication is hard to beat. As with the other books in this series by Dr. D.G.Hessayon it is beautifully illustrated and laid out in a logical and easy to follow fashion. The book covers all the essentials of basic flower arranging and is an ideal starting point for beginners. For more experienced flower arrangers it is also an excellent reference source and one can imagine readers returning again and again to this valuable repository. Of particular use as a reference source is the plant dictionary. On the more negative side, as one might expect from a book published in 1994, it does not cover some of the more modern flower arranging techniques. However there will always be new fashions and fads but as a basic flower arranging ... Read More:
