This is a superb book for those into meditation, stripping away all unecessary extras and bringing one directly into the heart of the matter. Not only does it correct ones view and method but it also inspires one to continue with such a beneficial and pure aspect of Liberation. highly highly recommended!

I've just ordered two copies of this terrific vegetarian cookbook - one for me and one for a deserving friend! I'm not usually a huge fan of cookbooks, but the recipes here are well-presented and simple, with delicious results. Current fave - Pecan Dreams - they're melt-in-your-mouth amazing! Thank you, Terri, for introducing me to this book :)

Books : The Greens Cookbook: Extraordinary Vegetarian Cuisine from the Celebrated Restaurant

The Greens Cookbook: Extraordinary Vegetarian Cuisine from the Celebrated Restaurant

by: Deborah Madison, Edward Espe Brown
1998-12

Until I met my wife, I was not really into vegetarian food, and was basically carnivorous. Over the years, I have learned both to cook and to enjoy a lot more vegetarian food, which in any case seems to have improved immeasurably in Britain over the past ten years or so.
This book is superb. Despite some reviews in the US saying that the recipes were too complicated or time-consuming, I really don't think they are (it only takes a few minutes to grind some spices; is that really so hard?); besides, I like to spend a bit of time in the kitchen if I'm making something special.
They use ingredients which are now widely available in larger cities, with a Mexican twist in a lot of cases; the black bean recipes thrilled my wife (who, Miami-bred, ... Read More:

Books : Tomato Blessings and Radish Teachings: Recipes and Reflections

Tomato Blessings and Radish Teachings: Recipes and Reflections

by: Edward Espe Brown
July 31, 1998

I'm predominatly vegetarian and have many vegetarian cookbooks. To date, this cookbook is my favorite. The recipes are very simple to make yet elegant in both appearance and taste.

The best parts of this book, however, are the stories and bits of philosophy that precede each set of recipes. My favorite section has to be the one called "Celebrating Tomatoes," in which the author discusses in colorful metaphor the joy of tomatoes in season. It's the perfect prelude to actually making the tomato salad, during which I have time to meditate on being fully me just as a tomato in season is fully a tomato. If you really want to torture yourself, read this section in the middle of January in upstate NY.

If you enjoy simple, practical ... Read More:

Books : The Greyston Bakery Cook Book: Gourmet Specialities from the Zen Community of New York

The Greyston Bakery Cook Book: Gourmet Specialities from the Zen Community of New York

by: Helen Glassman, Susan Postal
1988-09

The Greyston Bakery Cookbook is a wonderful cookbook. I have never had a single recipe fail, and the recipes are uniformly well written and easy to follow. Although the measurements are US, the effort is well worth it. I love to bake, and have never, ever found baking recipes as reliable and delicious and straightforward. Ever. Use this cookbook!
