This book is a great source of amusement. As a native of Cardiff, but now living in London area, it brought back many memories. I took this book to America and read it to friends who were amazed at the words used such as "pooer dab" and phrases such as " this ol cold of mine is hanging on and I can't shake it off for the life of me", " how do you sell the cabbages"etc. It would be a great guide for anyone studying accents.

This is a must have for all teachers of EFL/ESOL. It far surpasses the run-of-the-mill photocopiable activity books available to date. Clearly sectioned, easy to use, innovative and far clearer than any resource book I've used. The content can be used alone or as a supplement and I intend to buy the Intermediate version very soon. It's worth every penny. Useful not only for newly qualified teachers but also for experienced teachers looking for new ideas. Congratulations!!!!

Watcyn-Jones works his magic on the vocabularysection, and each author has their own forte. Complete lessons, witheasy-to-follow teaching guidelines for reading, writing, grammar andvocabulary skills. I love that it is photocopiable, and saves me time withits answer key. I also use the wrap-around free on-line supplementarylessons available from Penguin's Web site. I use it for childrens 11+activities, though some are more appropriate for adults.

People who like algorithms but hate equations will find this book a useful accessory to creative research in a variety of fields. It was a relief that the author accomplished an informative book that isn't boring or steeped in eurocentrism or political correctness.
This book is on par with "Godel, Escher, Bach" in terms of richness and it's more holistic approach, although not nearly as funny. (No fables about exploding record players amongst talking animals!) Math teachers of all levels wishing to convey to their students the CULTURAL ties to math will be rewarded by acquiring this book. As a student who hated math until my last year of college, I intend to give this book to my college Trigonometry teacher as a thank ... Read More:
