I am a mother to a seven year old daughter, who loves to sleep and is well adjusted and happy. I read the original Contented Little Baby book when I had her. Yes, it seems strict, but I really liked it because it worked for me. I am no Earth Mother, my daughter was born by emergancy caesarean and I bottle fed - but at no time did this book make me feel guilty or 'not a good mother' it gives a rounded view and covers all areas not just 'perfect scenarios'. My daughter slept through the night at six weeks, and to this day sleeps twelve hours a night and only wakes up if she is ill.
I am now expecting twins and look forward to reading Gina Ford's twin version as it may prove more helpful than the other twin books I've read which ... Read More:

I made the mistake of buying this book. As with other Gina Ford books if your child doesn't conform to her regime you feel inadequate and disappointed. She advises on day one (after they have proved they can do wee and poos on potty) to confine toddler in one room all day and repeatedly put them on the potty!! No way! I think I lasted half an hour and I got cabin fever. I found "No-cry Potty Training Solution: Gentle Ways to Help Your Child Say Good-bye to Diapers" by Elizabeth Pantley far more helpful and reassuring. Gina Ford does make things seem so easy, but she isn't training her own child and the whole thing can get emotional. In the Pantley book she says it can take up to 12 months before they get completly dry and with some I think it's true, ... Read More:

This book is awful, actually i think the whole contented little baby range of books are rigid and dont treat baby as individual.
I went the baby led weaning route with my 10 month old and it has been fantastic. Had absolutely NO issues with any solids as following the baby's lead. Also no need for all the purees etc.
Just as all other Gina books this one follows on fantastically from the Contented Baby book. Just as you start to worry about the toddler years here is the book with all the answers to keep you calm and confident. Very helpful book that Im constantly referring to for different stages of my sons development, filled with loads of advise and tips. My son is a happy confident toddler with a happy contented family around him, what more could you ask for!
My son was 12 months old when I decided that I needed help getting him to sleep on his own. I didn't know which direction to take; should I leave him to cry? Should I pick up until he's stopped crying? I purchased this book and followed the instructions to get my son to sleep on his own. Yes it was hard, but I knew I had to do it. It worked and it took 7 days for him to be asleep within 20 minutes of being left in his cot at bedtime. This book saved me from the distraught and upsetting times we had at bedtime. It gives you loads of case studies to read and hopefully match with your sleeping problem. Good luck xxx

My husband bought this book for me with the best of intentions the day i gave birth to our first baby. I read it and was appalled at the content.
I don't wish to offend but i feel sorry for any baby/child raised according to Gina Ford's ideas. No baby ever benefitted from being breastfed by the clock and left to cry.
Believe me, the only 'expert' you will ever need is Dr William Sears, an advocate of 'Attachment Parenting'. This style of parenting is so much more loving than the strict routine style that Gina pushes. Do yourself and your baby a favour...avoid this book like the plague. I'm just sorry i have to give 1 star just to be able to review it.

I was given this book as a present, as we have recently started weening. The recipes are healthy and easy to follow as well as being totally suitable for the whole family, even the recipes for the six month olds (although perhaps before it is pureed!)
This is making life so much easier not having to cook several different meals!
The recipes cover food for all different occasions snacks, main meals even party food.. Gina has most things covered here...

Having been recommended this book I was looking forward to picking up some useful tips. I was not able to breastfeed so any tips on bottle feeding was most welcome. What a disappointment, obviously this book is clearly for breastfeeders only, having the odd line or two at the end of a paragraph referring to bottle feeding. IF YOU ARE BOTTLE FEEDING DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!

One of the best books to read as a mum who may from time to time doubt themselves. It is somehow reassuring to see what you are feeling in black and white. Internet sites are a great source of information, but sometimes you may feel silly to discuss things. Gina touches on them all. It also has helped me understand my relationship with my mum and my husbands relationship with his mum. Thanks again Gina
