Great book - I heartily endorse the other reviews. But....as my daughter loved it so much I bought other pop-up books by Kate Petty including The Amazing Pop-Up Geography Book which turned out to be the same book under a different name. Do not be taken in.

I orginally bought this book as a present for my nephew but haven't been able to part with it. Each page is full of delight and fun encouraging the exploration behind all the 'pop ups'to find the answers. Although I learnt nothing new (I'm over 60) a child would find plenty to make them open their eyes and see and understand that science is all around them from baking to music. I just wish this had been available when my children were little. I can't wait to have the excuse to buy the other books in the series.

This is an amazing, beautiful book. It looks at the world as a garden, looking at plant life and in particular how different plants are used. Highlights include a page showing a garden with a pull-up that shows different plants and what they are used for; a page of lift the flaps showing fruits and vegetables growing and in the more familiar form (i.e. as bought in the shop); three pull out books that show how jeans, rubber tyres and paper are made; a fantastic pop-up of a cargo ship detailing where certain food stuffs come from and other interesting facts (like how much beer and rum sailors drank) and a beautiful pop-up of a flower arrangement with each flower described under a flap. This book is excellent. My daughter (6) now knows more about grammar than me! She loves the pop-ups and flaps. This book is well worth its price.

As a teacher with many years of experience,I was very disappointed to find this book,fussy,over illustrated and far too involved for the age of the childre to which it is directed.My own young grandchildren looked at it for a few moments,put it down and never showed anymore interestin opening it again.

This is a lovely book. It's beautiful, entertaining and educational, but
I bought it for my daughter for last christmas and was dissappointed to find the batteries for the keyboard in the back of the book didn't work. We managed to find replacement batteries and it still doesn't work properly as the batteries that were included in the book had corroded ... So, when buying the book, make sure you buy a new book that hasn't been sitting arround for a long time. >>More Details |

I am not sure if the subject effects the content, but this was not the best pop up book in the series.
It just did not seem as imaginative or fun as the previous books. Still a great learning tool for children though - for fun or for reference. >>More Details |
