This book is wonderful, the recipes are easy and tasty and don't depend too heavily on soy. In fact, it takes various allergies into account. So far I have made boursin, guacamole grillers, mozzeralla, gruyere toasts and an AMAZING quiche which is indistinguishable from the real thing. It isn't cheese so don't buy it and then moan, it is uncheese which is much nicer.

Joanne Stepaniak is an interesting, informative author, passionate about her subject, and a GREAT recipe writer!
I am a new vegan and was sent her "UnCheese Cookbook" which is WONDERFUL! I decided to try "The Vegan Sourcebook" to get a bit of background on veganism. While there is an American bias, as that is where the statistics and information mostly comes from, it is none the less effective for that. The treatment of animals world-wide is horrific and makes me ashamed that I was part of it for so long.
This book is an encouragement to me and a help. I am SO glad I bought it, and hope to eventually collect all of Ms. Stepaniak's other titles as well!

This is entirely in american cup sizes. Straight away that puts me off attempting anything in it.
Having flicked through, nothing really grabbed me as wanting to make it, and no pictures of course to tempt me either.
On the plus side, it's got lots of recipes, it's a very large book. Also good for people who don't like to buy any ready made items, with countless recipes for things like mayonnaise etc.

The book could be good for tips, if like the other reviewer, you have MANY food allergies & intolerances and it does have some good information on dietary problems, not just recipes - but many of the ingredients are very difficult to find in the UK (and so expensive if found). QUINOA seems to be in absolutely every recipe. Also required frequently are Xantham or guar gum, coconut oil, canola oil, safflower oil and chickpea flour. Occasionally included are amaranth, kuzu, sorghum and teff.
If you can easily get these ingredients, want to try them and can afford them this is the book for you. You could probably work out some alternative ingredients - but, um, that is probably ... Read More:

Genius book! The sauces in here will transform the simplest combination of grains/pulses/veg/tofu/tempeh or whatever into a bit of a gourmet feast. They lay waste to the notion that veggie and vegan cooking means hours of slaving over lentils and suchlike. They don't even need cooking - some are served cold, some just need a bit of gentle warming through. Try the roasted red pepper and pignolia (pine nut!) or the miso and ginger dressing for starters. Or the 'cheezy' cheeseless sauce or the creamy tarragon sauce or... well, you get the idea.
The author even gives serving suggestions to go with each dressing or sauce. Yum! All you need is a blender, a pan and bowl and you're sorted. (Preferably a stick blender for extra quickness ... Read More:
