"Brock" (as it's known!) is without doubt not just the best Microbiology textbook available but one of the best textbooks period. The book is logically set out, beginning with basic introductory material covering areas such as how we define a microorganism, cell structure, evolution, diversity and biochemistry before moving on to more complex general topics, including microbial growth, bioenergetics, catabolism and molecular biology. Brevia on Virology and Mycology are given, before moving on to the main sections on Bacteria and Archaea, arranged in terms of the taxonomy used in Bergey's Manual (the Microbiology Bible), going through the Proteobacteria by Class before covering Gram positive Bacteria and all the other various groups. Archaea ... Read More:

I recently reviewed this book for the journal PRIMARY CARE AND COMMUNITY PSYCHIATRY. The authors say, the book is aimed at `advanced graduate students as well as researchers of all levels from diverse disciplines who are designing mixed methods studies, (Preface, xvi). I think the style and structure of the book makes it accessible to a wide audience. The book is justified on the grounds that writings commenting on mixed methods research are `typically, difficult to locate and are conceptual and theoretical in nature rather than applied' (Preface, xv). The book is divided into 10 chapters, each dealing with a different aspect of mixed methods research. Each chapter concludes with a summary, exercises to carry out and additional resources ... A wonderful source for Anglo-Saxon words and their meanings, which is very reasonably priced. Intended as a teaching aid, I have found it very helpful to the writer of period history and fiction.

I cannot praise this book too highly. It covers the whole field of enterprise security architecture in great breadth and detail. Numerous useful models and patterns are included. Valuable (and sometimes amusing) case histories abound.
The writing is particularly clear; difficult topics are explained in full and I gained new insights in many areas.

This weighty and impressive tome, details information gathered by the British Trust for Ornithology and their partner organisations, through their various surveys, in particular through bird-ringing. The detail of bird movements is amazing, with details of the origins of birds coming to Britain and the wintering places of birds from Britain. The data used for this book is the result of years of dedicated work by many volunteer workers, who can now read the fruits of their labours, and as such is the result of generations of hard work and learning of literally hundreds or thousands of people. This book should be a reference to all serious birders and conservation workers alike. It is a simply magnificent piece of work!

I have given this book to many parents as part of parenting courses I have run and have found it to be extremely useful. It is in the description of how to actually implement the behavioural management strategies that Dr Clark excels since this is exactly where most parents falter when they attempt to use time-out. I have been thanked by parents time and again for recommending this book and will continue to use it in my psychology practice.
On a side-issue, to those reviewers who dismiss the book as sub-skinnerian behaviourist nonsense, I would respectfully suggest that they should actually read the book first and then perhaps read Skinner following that. The strategies suggested by Dr. Clark are based on sound, ethical, empirical evidence ... Read More:
