As always, really looking forward to the latest Tempe tome. Really wish I hadn't bothered. Characters didn't seem to care much about what was happening, and neither did I. Ryan turns up and......what happens? Well, nothing. Tempe attacked and hospitalised, does Katy turn up to see her? No. Unless you just want to collect a 'set' of Reichs novels, skip this one. Did I mention that it was also rather depressing/ Not in content, but in tone and style. Avoid.

I hope the next one will be better.

This is my first Kathy Reichs book, and althought my sister-in-law gave my wife and I 6 of her books, we have both agreed that we won't be reading the rest anytime soon. The pace of the book is slow and the prose overcooked. I like a book to keep me awake/entertained for perhaps an hour before sleep, this book had me nodding off after 10 mins. I found it hard work but I kept going. My wife gave up after 110 pages. Pity I do so love when we find a new author.

Hello,
How are yoo? I'm fine up here in Dunfermline town in the great country of Scotland. I'm cooking a haggis along with some cabbage for breakfast so I'll have to be quick.
This book is quite excellent. It's more thrilling than the Battle of Stirling scene in Braveheart, which says a lot. Or not. Anyhoo, I was really really impressed with the latest instalment in the adventures of Tempe Brennan, who wanders around North America, particularly Montreal, in search of murders and more importantly, the murderers themselves. It may not be exactly in the style of Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot, but it has a distinctive style of its own. It's probable closest to Inspector Clousseau in the Pink Panther films.
I must go noo cos my haggis ... Read More:

I have never read any of Reich's work before and have to say this has sat on the shelf for over a year waiting its turn to be read.

I was intrigued from the start with her natty way of narration and the way she describes the persons mood after they have spoken. She writes in an almost scientific commentary of her lead character's adventures.

The lead character, Tempe Brennan specialises in postmortem study of bones to determine causes of death and what has lead up to that death. In this particular case, she is called to assist an ailing friend who is County Pathologist in a fairly remote part of Southern Carolina, whilst actually supervising an archaeological dig. She discovers a body that doesn't appear to be ancient Native American as would ... Read More:

Striking a balance between informing a reader and preaching to them is a difficult one. I have found in the previous Kathy Reich books that I have read that she seems to preach a little too much for my liking. In `Death Du Jour' this reaches new and book ruining heights.

Dr Temperance Brennan returns and for once is not involved in recent murder and mayhem. Instead she has been asked by a group of Nuns to look in the ruins of a church for one of their long dead sisters who is to be potentially canonised. However, as usual trouble follows Temperance and when a local house goes up in flames she is asked to identify the bodies. It seems that several people have died and that it was arson. If these two cases were not enough Brenan becomes involved in a third when two ... Read More:

A nine year old girl is murdered during a crossfire between motorcycle gangs. Tempe gets involved. During the investigation she manages to find a North Carolina/Montreal connection, which was a little coincidental in the last book, too much this time. The blood spatter description was way too long and unlike the forensic descriptions in her last two books, was boring. She fights too much with the cops and makes stupid decisions the Tempe in the first two books never would have made. Her nice guy nephew seems to have gotten all stupid as well. And if all that isn't enough, Reichs went a little over the top in making the bikers so bad.

All that said though, I still found "Deadly Decisions" to be a fast, fun read and am giving it three stars.

I liked this book but it just was n't quite there. I felt like parts of the story were not elaborated enough , could have been better. Just an okay book. Will give the author another try though.

As usual, Kathy Reichs has written a book that's gripping and believable, and which has that undeniable ring of authenticity. It's stuffed full of details about forensic anthropology, but the technical stuff never seems forced - it's all presented in a way that's accessible and interesting for all readers, no matter what their knowledge of this highly specialized science. The plot has numerous twists and turns, and an ending that's both surprising and shocking. Highly recommended.

By now everyone knows Dr. Temperance Brennan, a tough and sexy anthropologist who appeared in Kathy Reichs' five previous novels and one rather successful TV series. In "Bare Bones" Tempe investigates several different cases - involving burnt bones of a newborn child, suspicious animal remains as well as a body of a smuggler - and finds out they might have something in common. However, when she learns that people who might help her with the investigation start having "accidents", she begins to fear for her and her daughter's life. Typically for the series, the chapters are short and end with cliffhangers which makes "Bare Bones" a quick read. A pity, though, that the characters (apart from Tempe's own) are hardly fleshed out, the wittiness of the narration too often seems rather artificial and the finale is not ... Read More:
