While it's an interesting tale, the final volume is just a bit of a let down. Everything, and I mean everything, gets tidily resolved. There are some silly bits in here too. You have people on the planet looking at shells being fired by space ships. You have the pilot of a space ship able to spot people on the planet. And then there's the scale of the worlds where these things live. You might think a gas giant planet would support more creatures than the earth as it is so much bigger, and the sun would support even more creatures as it is so much bigger than the gas giant planet - but this does not figure in the story at all.

And then there's the human chairman who seems able to run the entire Earth federation single handed with ... Read More:

This seris was engaging for the first couple of books. After reading about 50 pages of this, the last one i bought, i gve up. The guy cannot write. The writing style is so simplistic it's laughable. "Joe walked toJae's house. They ate dinner. Hydrogues came. They were really scared." Seriously, self harming is more fun that reading this. And the stories have already run their course three times over, he keeps reinventing the plot over and over, it's so dreadful.

To anyone familiar with the original DUNE universe, Frank Herbert's vision was so rich and majestic that as a reader I did not want the story to end. Well, at this point I very much wished it had.

PAUL OF DUNE had everything going for it: an interesting timeline, a detailed setting and unresolved cliffhangers. Yet it manages to fail.
This book picks up the action just after the first book (and movie) of the series (DUNE) and before the second (DUNE MESSIAH), a very interesting period of 12 years for which, so far, we only had hints and suggestive glimpses of. At the same time, a number of flashbacks flesh-out the details of the life of an adolescent Paul Atreides.
Wheels within wheels? No. Rather more like a lone, rusty wind-wheel ... Read More:

I picked up both of the previous books to this one in a charity shop and, having run though them at a fair pace, stumped up and bought the third.

This is, I imagine the idea that most people have when reading this series - they are buying them to try and glean some form of conclusion from the many many storylines on parade here. Unfortunately, this doesn't really happen. Like the TV series LOST, the advances in individual characters' plots are so very minor and the chapters are so short that the moment anything interesting happens in one storyline, you are whisked away to another more boring one, then another, then another etc...

This is a reasonable technique to build tension, but it becomes irritating as it is over-employed. Having read ... Read More:

I like other cannot put the book down, but I got bored with the rebellion. I didn't care about the people and just wanted to get back to the others in the book. The logic of the Adar was flawed and I found myself screeming at him.

I'm afraid I disagree with the other (earlier) reviewers. This book has a thin plot despite jumping all over the place and a huge cast of characters who don't become more than 2-dimensional - mostly because the chapters are short and there isn't a lot of time to develop any emotional bond with any one character. Frankly, do I care about those who die or get captured? No, not really, they are just plot devices.

A typical section for me can be summarised as "X went here, found this, was shocked, went somewhere else. Meanwhile on the other side of the galaxy, Y went here, found this, was shocked, went somewhere else. Meanwhile..." Then at the end, invent a new super-race of aliens to save everyone and hang the next book on. If you like this breathless expository ... Read More:

This was an awesome sequel to the first book in the Trilogy. Unfortunately, after almost 3 years, I would really like to read the rest of the story. Is it still coming? As much as I enjoy Dean Koontz's books, I will not buy another until he produces the ending to this story. I do not undertsand why he has cranked out several unrelated books since writing #2 and left us hanging here with an unfinished story.....
I am beginning to feel ripped off as if I bought a book missing 33% of it's pages. I see no difference.

I too have been waiting for this book to appear for some 20 odd years Then here it was, or here they were.

That was the first thing, in a long line of things, that annoyed me.

How on earth did DUNE 7 manage to become DUNE 7.1 and DUNE 7.2? One earlier reviewer stated that they thought it scandalous that some of us may think that the authors might try to milk this series for profit. The proof is right there sunshine, the proof is right there. This was one of the MOST ANTICIPATED BOOKS EVER, we did not need warm ups, reminders or other superflua to 'get us back up to speed' no, we just needed the story.

As to the actual story, if you are prepared to grace it with such a honourable descriptive, no way pal. My review ... Read More:

Koontz's attempt to revive Shelley's classic literary masterpiece could easily have ended in disaster, instead it is a triumph. Koontz takes the demented Frankenstein and his hapless creation, and drags them screaming and kicking into the modern day.

Interestingly in the 200 years since their exploits were last recorded by Shelley, Frankenstein has become more disturbed and ruthless in his pursuit of supreme creation. No longer does he need to root through prison graveyards for grizzly remains. Technology has developed to the stage of far more human-looking creations.

Only his first-born son knows who he really is, and has the means or the will to stop his Father...

Just like the original, Koontz's update contains many interesting themes about humanity and ... Read More:
