The most common ingredient in this book is "vegan margarine", and all the recipes give you a product which is uncomfortably high in fat.
In addition, you need to check your fat very carefully. Most margarines, including margarines made entirely from vegetable oil, contain partly hydrogenated oils. That's trans fat, the very last thing you should be eating.

Normally, I am not a great fan of cooking books without pictures (must be to do with some strange inner desire to know what the heap of mush I produced was actually supposed to look like) but this book is an exception and has become a real favourite of mine. The recipes are not overly complicated and work even if you couldn't get hold of all ingredients. Depending on how much time and effort you wish to invest, you can find simple dishes or ideas for a big and varied Indian dinner.
Vegans and non-vegans should find this a real treat!

I recently bought this book for my sister and decided to taste test one of the recipes before I handed it on- sorry sis, you'll have to buy your own copy now. There's sisterly love, and then there's a vegan taste of the carribean love! All the recipes I've tried so far have been very clear and uncomplicated but taste like you've had a professional chef over for dinner. I've just lost a load of weight, but won't mind getting fat using this book. Buy it and change your kitchen!!

A great vegan cookbook which I use time and time again! All of the recipes are foolproof, but I have to say, why do so many Vegan cookbooks not have photos?????

This is a good no-frills book. There are a wide variety of recipes and rather than providing substitutes for meat or dairy she has found examples of genuine vegan cuisine. I like this series as it gets away from the brown rice and nut roast image of veganism and looks to cuisines where there is a huge amount of vegan food on offer. I've made around 10 of the recipes and they've all been good, though I found I needed to add more seasoning than recommended in the recipes, but that's a minor point. Personally I would rather pay a bit more and have a glossier book with photos - this one is very cheap and cheerful looking, but well worth the money if you're looking for inspiration.

I was looking forward to recieving this book and when it arrived I continued to be excited....for a couple of minutes.
I was disappointed to find that the book doesn't have a vegan recipe for pad thai.....pad thai being one of THE most popular dishes in Thailand I figured it would be in this book but sadly not.
I have tried a few of the recipes and thus far I'm not overly impressed....there is definitely a gap in the market for a good thai vegan cookbook.....sadly this book does not fill that gap.

Highly recommended. I like this international series and used many of the recipes in this particular book to cook for a Mexican-themed party and the food was just delicious - vegans and non-vegans alike couldn't get enough of it and it looked fantastic too. Aubergine Enchiladas and Mango Salsa were some of the biggest hits, as was the Mole Sauce. While the book includes the usual chilli/guacamole/rice dishes, it really does push the boat out regarding more innovative meals, yet the ingredients are mostly easy to get hold of. However, most people will want to add salt as none of her recipes include this!
