Books : Shark: Endangered predator of the sea

Shark: Endangered predator of the sea

by: Marty Snyderman
1995

This book measures approx. 11in wide by 10in tall (28cm x 26cm). On those pages where there are photographs we find photographs and captions only. On those pages where there is text - there is text only. Having described this book as "exceedingly fine" - which it is, let me start with a criticism of this otherwise excellent work. On each page of text that text measures a very neat 6in x 5in and is placed in the centre of the page. This leaves a very large plain white margin on all sides. In fact the text actually occupies less than one third of the available paper on each page but is arranged so that it does not appear so.

Why is this a criticism? The answer is simple. Marty Snyderman's work is so exceptionally good that I felt ... Read More:

Books : California Marine Life: A Guide to Common Marine Species

California Marine Life: A Guide to Common Marine Species

by: Marty Snyderman
May 28, 1999

Vegetarian Books Price: Â£20.98
Prices subject to change.

Used Price: £14.06

California Marine Life is a well written guide to the varied underwater world of California. The book is divided into chapters on the different types of underwater environment (Kelp-forests, tidal-zones, rocky-shores etc), which makes it much more interesting to read than the regular "endless-list-of-fish-species" type of book. I also gives you a good overview on what you might expect in the different types of environment. The photos in this book are really great.

I can recommend this book to everyone interested in Californian marine life.

Books : Caribbean Marine Life

Caribbean Marine Life

by: Marty Snyderman, Clay Wiseman
1993-02

These two authors have a list of credits to impress anyone. I suppose in some ways they could, therefore, sit back on their laurels and allow their reputations to sell their work. But not so! I could not find one single underwater image in this book which was not of the highest standard. From photographs of Divers and Sharks right down to the finest macro-photography, this is a book to show all budding underwater photographers how it should be done.

That said, this is not a book about photographs - it is a guide to the Marine Life of the Caribbean, Bahamas and Florida. "What do you mean the Caribbean, Bahamas AND Florida - surely it's all the Caribbean" I hear some people say. But they're the sort of people who think whales are ... Read More:
