While reading the book, at times I wished that it would be a more recent writing. It was published in 1973 and since then, many of the political and social situations have changed. Soviet Union and the Eastern Block no longer exist; and South Africa has stopped the Apartheid. However, the issue of human rights is just as volatile now as it was during the time when Cranston wrote his book. The crimes against humanity in former Yugoslavia and in other spots around the world demand attention from the international community and member states. Cranston did not write in terms of politics, but rather in terms of history. Therefore, I believe he offered me and other readers a better understanding of the history of human rights and brought me closer ... Read More:
