Its great to read, and of course the "bear" hunt afterwards into the woods is pretty good. Children love this book, and ask for it over and over again!

'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' has been one of the favourite stories for children at the nursery where I work for years. It is a beautiful and well-constructed story, with nice use of repetitive language patterns that children can join in with or re-enact.
I was a little concerned by the idea of a DVD version: I didn't want to see one of the children's favourite stories ruined by over-production.
I needn't have worried. The DVD is beautifully-produced. It doesn't detract from the story in any way: the animation is simply an animated version of the illustrations from the book and the narration (by Kevin Whately and Emelia Fox) is just right. The added music track isn't intrusive, and it's used to partially set the words ... Read More:

Got this as a gift for a three year old boy as I loved it so much as a young child. By the end of the day he had already started to learn the rhyhmes. Everything is exactly how you would remember only it's easier for small hands to hold and much more sturdy.

The content is funny but in a juvenile kind of way, would appeal to pre-teens. Very short but thats to be expected for the money. More of a stocking filler gift.

A lovely book, recommended by a friend.
Those who have lost someone close, whoever it is should read this book. It tells it like it is. Have brought an extra copy for another friend.

I have used this book with several Y1 classes and all the children have loved it. The can join in and do actions to the story. I have found to be very successful in helping children who have behaviour problems and is a really good starting point for discussions. Well worth buying!!

It's a nice enough story with lovely pictures (hence 4 stars), albeit half of them in b&w - is that for colouring in? I don't like that the paragraph (We are going on a bear hunt. We're going to catch a big one. What a beautiful day! We're not scared.) is repeated 6 times in the book. The book is great for making a play of it, that sounds like fun, but just reading it is probably a little boring.

This book is a collection of perfect poems. I enjoyed most of them, however, some of the long ones made me a bit bored. My favourite poem is called `Butter and Margarine' because it is very funny and (kind of) original. It starts with: `Row, Row, Row your Boat, Gently down the Stream, Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, Merrily'. Then it goes on to say `Life is but a - no it's not, it's margarine!' It is a bit of a joke but then again most of Michael Rosen (the poet)'s poems are hilarious! I would really rate this book 7/ 10 and would strongly recommend it to anyone in the need of a good laugh!
