This is a good book to have as part of a collection, but I certainly don't recommend it on its own, as it tends to suggest that fairly low dosages are as high as should be looked into. I do think it's a useful guide for understanding a lot of nutritional supplements, but would recommend it in companionship with the superb "Health Defence" by Paul Clayton and "Digestive Wellness" by Elizabeth Lipski. A useful reference tool.

I've bought two books on 5-htp, this one and Ray Sahelian's. This is by far the most comprehensive and in depth. I recommend it to anyone that is interested in the details of how and why this works, and how and why additional supplements such as tyramine or phenylalanine will increase the effectiveness of 5-htp.
I've been interested in managing my own depression for a long time, and interested in such concepts as the "blood-brain barrier", and why certain amino acids must be eaten on an empty stomach to be effective. This book provides the detailed scientific knowledge, as well as the general usage guidelines. You can skip the science parts if you want, but it goes into significant detail to describe the different ... Read More:

This book is written in very easily digestible chunks for the lay person, with the final chapter outlining in a nutshell how to get rid of yeast infection. Useful recommendations are additionally provided on PMS, which often goes hand in hand with yeast infection. One of the recommendations to clear yeast infection is to cut out dairy products. Since this is a food group, the book could be improved by providing alternative food sources of calcium rather than just suggesting taking calcium tablets. This is only one small quibble and not worth knocking off a star when you consider the book overall. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know about the symptoms and natural cure of chronic candidiasis because the information is ... Read More:

Each topic (e.g. migraine, detoxification etc) is discussed in great detail with several treatment options discussed. I have read this book over and over again. The simple and straightforward writing style makes it easy to read.

Anyone wanting to avoid or take on their cancer by way of diet and supplementation would be hard pressed to find a better manual than this. Compiled by four doctors, it is easy to read without being simplistic, evidence-based and authoritative.

A self-assessment questionnaire enables the reader to gauge how at risk they are, and simultaneously informs them of the risk factors they are exposing themselves to, and of the mechanisms of cancer. The fundamentals of a sound cancer-preventive diet are laid out, with recommendations for additional ... Read More:

I really enjoyed this book and found it very helpful and encouraging. It doesn't spend a lot of time on the 'what CFS is and how to diagnose it' that many books do, (most of us know all that anyway), but gets down to addressing specific problems quickly and giving good advice. The author is an experienced naturopath who has helped many sufferers to improve their level of health by his programmes, so we can trust that he knows what he's talking about.
The third chapter discusses 'tuning up the mind and attitude' and helps the reader to get into the right frame of mind. Many, esp. those unfortunate enough to have been ill a long time, have lost faith in recovery/improvement, so it's vital for the sufferer to really learn to believe in ... Read More:

This book is an interesting and informative source of information for people wanting to get the best out of everyday food. I never thought there could be so many benefits of buying yourself a juicer - and the amount of different combinations of juice is amazing. This book is my reference point for quick and natural remedies. A real worthwhile buy.
