This is the first Rough Guide that I bought and I was blown away by how perfect it was. Its such a good combination of practical details and cultural information which gave a good insight into some cultural differences we experienced. I actually bought this book so that we could decide which country we wanted to visit on an upcoming weekend break. We eventually decided on Stockholm, but had great fun reading about all the different cities we considered possibilities. When it came to planning our trip, the Rough Guide was everything we needed and more. We never needed to consult another book or website and every question we had was answered upon a quick consultation of the book. Unusually for a travel-guide, I managed to read the 'Rough Guide to Florida' from beginning to end. For this fact alone, I must applaud the author for keeping me entertained with informative and interesting snippets of information. The communication style of the book is in-keeping with the, now well-established, format of the 'Rough Guide' series, being concise and honest in it's appraisal of the area(s) reviewed. If I have to make a critical comment, it would be that it appears that the author is rather biased towards Miami, with the detail being more exhaustive for this area than any other part of Florida. This seems rather strange seeing that there is a 'Mini Rough Guide to Miami and The Florida Keys' as part of the same series. Read More: >>More Details |

I bought this book to learn more about San Francisco history and its landmarks. Along with another book "It happened in San Francisco", this work gives you a clear vision of the events that shaped San Francisco's early days like the gold rush and the earthquakes.

A very informative book - which contains plenty of information for the casual visitor to New York. Not up there with the full blown Fodor or Dorling Kindersley guides, but then it's a fraction of the price, and a fraction of the weight! If you have to carry a guide book around with you for a few weeks, before even getting to New York, then this is the one you want to carry.
