Recently Natsuki Takaya has dealt with the relationships of some of the supporting characters... and now it's back to the main trio.

And the nineteenth volume of "Fruits Basket" focuses on Tohru's growing feelings for Kyo, even as she struggles to free him from his curse -- and the scorn of the other zodiac members. Though there are some funny moments (mostly from the wonderfully wacky Ayame) growing romantic feelings and past regrets are littered all through these chapters.

Heartfelt talks take up a lot of space -- when Shigure tells Tohru about the approaching "last banquet" and the cat's place, she is left struggling with her torn feelings. Kyo has a chat with her kindly grandfather about Tohru, and remembers his own talk ... Read More:

I found this volume one of the best that I have read, it exsposes Kyo's past, which really accounts for his bitterness. I found it a real tear jerker. Normaly when it gets to a good part in fruits basket , i jump up and down and go crazy cause its like wooow that happended. but when i read this volume and a good bit happended (which it does)i just sat staring into space, so dumbfounded, then i started crying (i get really into manga) - i hope that doesnt give too much away but im telling you this volume is really good.:-)

I know there really isn't any point in me writing this review because you probably all ready love the series, and as this is volume five, assuming you are up to four, you will need to buy this one if you ever hope to progress beyond it; but... I just love Fruits Basket so much! I had to write a review for it!

So, this volume finds Tohru and the gang going on holiday for a couple of chapters. We learn more about the existing characters, and as always, we meet a bunch of new ones. The art is fantastic as usual and the little comments Takaya leaves throughout the manga are always welcome.

This series just keeps getting better and better; I just adore Fruits Basket. This series has everything all packed into every single volume, so ... Read More:

Having revealed some shocking facts about the Sohma dictator, Akito, Natsumi Takaya turns her attention to the supporting players.

And the eighteenth volume of "Fruits Basket" turns us back to several favorites -- Hiro, Kisa, Haru and Rin, with a little sprinkling of Yuki and his budding love life. What's more, Takaya throws a wild little twist in near the end, which hints at what will eventually happen to the zodiac.

Rumors are flying that Machi tried to murder her baby brother, surprising Yuki. As he searches for clues to this quiet, strange girl's personality, he also has to deal with one of his fangirls, who is about to graduate and has a parting message for him. The truth of Maki's family life only draws Yuki closer to her.

Fruits Basket follows the life of orphaned high school student Tohru Honda. When her mother is killed in a car crash she is forced to go and live with her Grandfather. We join the story when she has had to temporarily leave her grandfather's house, unwilling to impose on any of her friends she opts to live in a tent. Despite working herself into the ground she remains cheerful and one day stumbles across a house in the woods in which live some of the mysterious of Sohma family. Feeling sorry for her (after the loss of her tent/home) they invite her to stay and immediately put her to work cleaning up the male dominated household.

Tohru soon learns that the boys of the house are not quite what they seem, they are possessed by the spirits of the zodiac. ... Read More:

I've been reading Fruits Basket ever since it was first released in English, an "avid fan" if you will. In this volume you get more backstory about Tohru Honda's mother and father, along with other things, but I'm not explaining anything, you must buy it to find out.

I've just re-read the series up to volume 16(getting 17&18 for xmas) and its rekindled my love and obsession for the series. It's just the kind of series you can identify with, you can pick out the similarities to yourself. And the characters just have so much depth!!
If your looking for a shojo series to really get into, this is one of the best you can find. It's millions of fans will back me up.
It's got everything, bishies, love, drama, comedy and much more.

If you're a fan of Momiji, like I am, buy this volume without delay. Although most of the book is taken up with Tohru's heartwarming quest to find Kureno, Uo's mystery man, Momiji does feature at the end. More to the point, so does Momo. If, like me, you found the whole idea of Momo and Momiji being kept apart very poignant, the continuation of this storyline is bound to make you emotional, even if you don't actually cry. On the humorous side, Ayame finally manages to achieve his aim of actually helping Yuki in a practical way; as a bonus, you get to see Mayuko and Ayame interact and it's so much fun to read!
