Jacqueline Wilson's stories deal with some very sensitive topics and they're fun to read, too, which is why I read 'Cookie' within a few days of its publication. As a teacher, I was hoping to use it as the basis for a classroom discussion with a group of Year 6s on some of the issues that the book brings up.

In the end I couldn't use it. The book seems to be aimed at much younger children, and the story doesn't fit together properly. When Beauty Cookson's mum realises that Beauty is being bullied over her appearance by her classmates, as well as by her vicious dad, she decides that she will teach Beauty how to bake cookies so that she can share them at school and subtly persuade the bullies to give her a new nickname - Cookie instead ... when i picked the book up, i couldn put it down! i enjoyed every chapter and the dramatic ending, and jauline wilson is a gr8 author and is one of my favourites! i liked the part when harley and pearl descover the badger set, and when they sneak out at night. and it gave me a surprise when jodie fell out the tower, but then they had a new baby, so all the sad bits weres saved, and ill never foget the end sentace, "ill never forget my sister jodie."

Books : Mixed Up Fairy Tales

Mixed Up Fairy Tales

by: Hilary Robinson
September 15, 2005

This got my 3 1/2 year old laughing in delight at the silly results of his page choices. He would not let me put it down, and though I had initialy bought it as a present for someone else, i will have to buy another copy. He was thrilled to know which stories the pages came from, and mixing them up brought him great entertainment. A big hit.

I read this over a few nights with my 7 year old daughter at bedtime. I have to say it touched me so much. Reading aloud, I could feel my voice starting to wobble when it came to Daisy talking about her feelings for her sister Lily who has learning difficulties. It was very well written and we both felt vexed for Daisy and contempt for the loathsome spoilt Chloe who gets her comeuppance. As someone who was sadly a victim of bullying at school I could really relate to Daisy's character and her worries and my daughter really empathised with her. I would definately buy more of this authors books.

Girls in Tears is the fourth (and hopefully not final) installment of Jacqueline Wilson's 'Girls' series and again focuses its attention on the lives, loves and laughs of best-pal trio, Ellie, Magda and Nadine.
In this latest installment, things are not going very swimmingly for our favourite lasses. Ellie's boyfriend Russell is being a pain in the behind, Nadine is acting like a careless air-head, Magda is upset over the death of her hamster, and Ellie's dad and step mum are at logger heads. While the book of course includes all the usual elements from previous 'Girls' installments (worries about looks, popularity, being cool, keeping your friends etc) all the major themes seem to come to a head in this latest one and it is to dramatic affect. ... Unlike many interactive style books for small children this does not make noises, nor does it require you to lift the flaps. As a parent I think this is brilliant, as there is nothing to drive you mad, and nothing for the child to rip. It does require the child to poke their finger through a hole in the page though, which given that poking their fingers into unlikely places is what small children do naturally, works a treat.
The fantastic illustrations, great imagination and simple repetitive rhyming of the book all make it a clear favourite with kids and something silly and fun that they can learn easily and repeat with great gusto. A wonderful book.

This is the best book i have ever read and it is great for people my age(which is 12). It was a tad rude at times but you get used to it as you go through the book. I would definately reccommend it to anyone who likes a laugh and a cry at times.

This book appealed to year 5. They loved it infact. They voted it 5/5 in the book club. The boys loved it as much as the girls, even though the main character is a girl.
