I am having trouble understanding the other reviews on this book and CD, as I found this book unbelievably contrived, with too much talking. There is a french lady who introduces each song, which totally spoils the flow, especially as she has a really fake syrupy way of speaking which is very grating.
I was so annoyed with the CD, I actually threw it away so my children (and others) would never be subjected to listening to it. I never do things like that normally, but I felt very passionately about this! If kids are bored and turned off to French early on, it may be hard work geting them interested again later on, by which time the damage has already been done.
I bought this book after having borrowed it time and time again from the library. My 4 year old son loves to hear me tell him the story in French. It is very clever that the book has flaps which enables your child to lift and underneath it gives a simple french word such as numbers or colours.

This is a really great little book for anyone looking for a bedtime story to introduce Spanish, especially if you have little or no knowledge of Spanish itself. You are introduced to a naughty little cat and have a little conversation with him. Leo speaks Spanish, and the English is shown under the flap. The English translation is also given on the page. There is a pronunciation guide and vocab in the back. I wish there were more books like this.

This book is the most difficult for young babies as it is hard to convey a smile as the non-verbal communication for hello. Clapping, waving and hugging are much easier for a small baby to understand. My daughter is 10months and sits on my knee facing away from me when we read stories so it's hard for her to see me smile and hard to show her in the book. It is probably better for an older baby

This book was a really good buy. It contained interesting information about foreign language acquisition and loads of good ideas for how to teach a foreign language at home without it seeming like work. There were strategies for involving the whole family and visitors to the house in either the learning itself or admiring the results of the child/children's work in the "language corner".
What more can I say? If you want to teach a foreign language at home and are looking for where to start and what to do, buy this book!
