This is probably the best book I have ever read. I didn't think it could get any better after Powder monkey and Prison ship but it has. Paul Dowsell is a FANTASTIC author.

My 10 year old son read this as it was recommended by a friend. He was enthralled, said its the best book he's read (he reads all the time). It is the only book I know of that has made him cry, it has a sad ending. I think he empathised with Sam Witchall which made the story more vivid. Its a historical story of life on a ship and he asked and learnt a lot about this as well. Brilliant read for young and older readers.

Following the rip-roaring 'Powder Monkey' Paul Dowswell has produced another excellent adventure for young sailor Sam Witchall. This time around he is framed by scheming crewmates and stands trial for cowardice, leading to a perilous quest for justice that takes him to the other side of the world and back.
It is easy to carp about simplistic prose but this novel does exactly what it says on the tin: it entertains and is 'unputdownable'. Again, the charm lies in the writer's use of first-person narrative and the unflagging action that lies within. My only quibble, and the reason I have given four rather than five stars, is that the majority of the action takes place on land rather than on a ship. I really enjoyed Powder Monkey's vivid descriptions ... Read More:

Crammed with accurate historical facts and totally fantastic for kids. I live in Egypt and rent flats out to tourists and always recommend this book for any children that I have coming. As a student of Egyptology I can not fault the facts and I just love the 'adverts'. It is a great pre holiday reading and will enthral most age groups.
