a talking book, on one cd, telling an all new story featuring the characters from the tv show the sarah jane adventures. the story is read by actress elisabeth sladen, who plays the title role in the show on tv. she does fairly decent impesssions of the style of speaking of the other three main characters, and does some good original voices of her own for the original characters in the tale.

After reading and disliking Twilight Streets which put me off reading any more the the Torchwood books that came out after series 1. However after reading up on this book on the dr who forum I decided to give this a try. And didn't regret it. I really loved this book and Peter Anghelides did a great job in recreating the characters from the tv show in a believable way.
The book starts off with Rhys shopping in prepartion for his wedding in a Cardiff shopping mall which descends into to chaos and death with a set of playing cards and the rift creating havoc in Cardiff.
I love this book as it gives the team (which includes Tosh & Owen) a chance to shine and has more for Ianto to do since Twilight Streets it continues ... Read More:

Audiobooks are a great thing. Only recently, have I started getting into them, when the Radio Times gave away free copies of Dr. Who: The Resurrection Casket (without any background music/sound effects). Interested, I put it on my iPod and really enjoyed listening to it.
Wanting to listen to more audiobooks as a result, I learned of Dr. Who: Pest Control (written by Peter Anghelides) and decided to give it a hear. And yet again, I really enjoyed listening to an audiobook and putting it on my iPod.
Set sometime during Series 4 of the TV series, the Doctor and Donna Noble arrive on a distant planet, caught in-between the warring forces of humans and centaur-creatures known as the Acquarby. Unfortunately, things get even more ... Read More:

Another Life is the first of the Torchwood books. Unlike many TV-tie-ins it hits the ground running. The story is interesting enough which fits well into the Torchwood world. All characters are well represented and Torchwood McGuffins like the Rift, the Hub and the various technology all fit in well.
The main plot concerns a theft of nuclear material. Its nothing remarkalbe but its enjoyable reading about characters we have only till now watched on TV. Nothing too ambitious is tried in this first book but at the same time the reader gets the impression a lot of work went into this book as it fits seamlessly with the Torchwood world. Its set between episodes 3 and 4 of the series it seems.
As a guy that adores audio-dramas and a fan of Torchwood, I was excited to buy the Torchwood audiobooks and honestly... it was pretty good. It's not an audio-drama like those on BBC Radio 4, it's exactly what it says on the tin, or in this case, the CD case - Torchwood: Another Life (Audiobook) read by John Barrowman.
In my opinion, these audio serials would be far better if read by the entire cast with the sound effects like that of audio-dramas. Other than that, it's pretty good.

I always approach DW short story collections with slight apprehension, fear that everything new and original has already been said and done. But this jaded reader needn't have worried, for this book contains 17 original and highly enjoyable stories to devour. There's something for everyone with various companions from the likes of Ian and Barbara right through to the present day TARDIS occupants such as Charley and Anji, all vividly and accurately depicted. The book is a breath of fresh air in an ever increasing marketplace and well worth searching out - excellent stuff!
