Books : RHS Pests and Diseases

RHS Pests and Diseases

by: Pippa Greenwood, Andrew Halstead
April 05, 2007

I don't own this book but recently bought a copy for my brother, and would like to get one myself. What struck me when browsing this book, and what impelled me to buy it, was the plethora of excellent, good-sized colour photos to enable the precise identification of every pest and disease. Unfortunately many books on this subject provide instead only line drawings, which don't do the trick in the same way as a good photo.
But this book is not just full of photos - there's plenty of detailed written info too on each problem and which plants it affects, and no doubt (since it's an RHS book and involved Pippa Greenwood) of good quality too, but I didn't have a chance to read through it and assess it.
Another RHS book on the same ... Read More:

Books : 1001 Ways to be a Better Gardener

1001 Ways to be a Better Gardener

by: Pippa Greenwood
April 15, 2008

As a gardener myself, I really rate Pippa Greenwood, what she doesn't know about pests and problems is not worth knowing. She's not a TV personality, she's a genuine expert and this book is full of great tips and snippets.
It's one to skim through and then go back to the parts that you need rather than read cover to cover in one go.
I particularly liked the section on propagation, one area where many gardeners go wrong and on the correct use of fertilizers. For a beginner it's invaluable and for the experienced gardener there are quite a few tips you'll be grateful for.
It's been on and off my shelf for a few weeks now. I'll just check what Pippa says before tackling a new job. Well worth it.

Books : Pippa's Organic Kitchen Garden

Pippa's Organic Kitchen Garden

by: Pippa Greenwood
September 16, 1999

This book is easy to read and full of colour photos. However, I did notfind it a useful guide to organic gardening. I had imagined there would be tips on aspects such as companion planting; but what you get is a diary of Pippa's garden with just a few tips hidden amongst the text detailing her own successes!

Books : Pippa Greenwood's Gardening Year: The Busy Gardener's Essential Month-by-month Guide

Pippa Greenwood's Gardening Year: The Busy Gardener's Essential Month-by-month Guide

by: Pippa Greenwood
October 04, 2004

This is a fold-out sheet, like a map.

I bought this to top up an order to get free delivery and to be blunt that is all it is worth. The information is very limited and there is nothing here that could not be found in a basic gardening book.

So unless, like me, you need to top up the value of your order then other of Pippa Greenwood's publications would be a better buy.
