I am currently doing medicine, and used this book for Biochem. The book is very well organised, and the layout is excellent, with bold writing and clear diagrams. Another useful feature is a summary section at the end which is very useful for revision, or a quick reference when time is short. The only one slight downfall is that there are a few in depth biochemical topics missing, but these can be found on the internet. So all in all I would say this is definatly a book worth considering.

This book has to be a godsend! It has saved me a lot of time & effort when it comes to studying microbiology. Before i got it, i used a combination of MIMS & JEWITZ along with some illustrated case studies, but now this book ALONE more than makes up for all of them! Following the same format as its older siblings (Biochemistry & Pharmacology) it presents relevant information in a very simple way along with very well crafted illustrations that REALLY deliver the message. I also liked the last couple of chapters in which there is a summary of clinically important pathogens along with their most important properties used in laboratory identification. As a bonus those last chapters are presented in color (a first for the series!). If ... Read More:

We just wanted to point out that this book is NOT just for those of you studying/teaching OCR GCSE Media Studies (despite the OCR badge on the front cover).
It is arranged with a chapter on each of the main media forms - Film, TV, Newspapers, Magazines, Radio, Music, Comics/Cartoons - and references all of the Media Studies key concepts.
Therefore we wrote it to be useful for AQA and WJEC too, so have a look.

This book is fantastic for AS Media students. I would highly recommend buying this revision guide in September when you start your course, as it has great help on the Foundation Production coursework as well as revision for exams!

The book is clearly organised into 44 self-study units with each chapter being an independent structured learning module. Each chapter deals with a specific class of drug and goes through the pharmacology in a logical and ordered fashion. The text is concise and yet still manages to explain core concepts in a clear fashion. The book itself is aimed as a companion text to lecture notes and a main pharmacology textbook and is most useful as a tool for consolidating and ensuring clear understanding of the class and action of drugs.
The book is heavily illustrated throughout and this is its major strength. The diagrams are clear and easy to interpret and the chapter can easily be followed by examining the figures in the side margin. ... Read More:

As an A'Level media studies teacher I think this book is extremely useful for students and teachers alike. As it is specifically targetted towards the OCR spec, it's an excellent resource and is especially good for revision. Only four stars as sometimes the layout could be clearer.
