The title of this book is perhaps slightly misleading, as it does very much concentrate on the resources of the National Archives of Scotland. Although the subtitle does explain this - "a guide to ancestry research in the National Archives of Scotland" - this does not appear on the cover.
The book is written by staff of the NAS, and its resources are described in detail. However, resources elsewhere receive rather minimal treatment, and the information is not entirely up to date. For example:
The address of Shetland Archives has changed, but this has not been updated. The relocation has been in progress for some time, and the archives reopened in early 2007, having been closed during the relocation. This information ... Read More:

I found so many inspirational lines to reflect on. It is very cheering to read the considered thoughts and opinions of so many young people in Scotland. Good to dip into for a variety of things, both educational and personal. I liked its range of material, through Christian, Buddhist, Native American and pop/rock world themes. The young people's references to their families and friends were particularly appealing. I loved the cover pictures, too.

Although a shortish book, this crams in all the basic information you need to understand this period. If you're familiar with the Osprey series, it's a similar size and length. The text covers the development of the Scottish kingdom of Alba out of its Pictish forebears, but is commendably un-nationalist in its approach, giving space to the role of the Vikings, Britons and Angles who played a formative part in Scottish history in this period. The text is clear and readable, but still intelligent and up-to-date on historical and archaeological theory (e.g. on the nature of ethnicity). You won't be bored, you won't feel talked down to, nor will you feel like you've bought a kid's book. It'd be a good quicky primer for university students, even. Read More:

Common Ground is a breath of fresh air for churches that wish to try something new that is more radical than the sometimes vacuous choruses and songs published in 'Mission Praise' and 'Songs and Hymns of Fellowship', for example.
A wide variety of sources have been drawn on - there are songs from many countries, traditions and denominations - to bring a selection that will bring something new and valuable to any congregation.
My only disappointment is that there is not a melody edition for congregations.
