I've owned (or been given) a number of different cocktail recipe books over the years. Not a single one of them comes anywhere close to the exhaustive range (2000+ recipes) and precision of Difford's. I now find myself looking at other cocktail books and laughing at their ludicrous oversimplification - you can find books that call themselves 'The Professional Bartenders Guide' which suggest that the only Martini recipes in existence are 'dry', 'sweet' and 'Gibson'. Diffords by comparison has dozens - and comes with an excellent potted history of some of the major classic cocktails.

i purchased this for my boyfriend although he prefers the new one (with the red cover) he do think this is an essential book for any person who wants to make cocktails at home or professionally, a very good book. x

This book is a superb collection of cocktail recipes ranging from the old (Champagne Cocktails), the standard (G&Ts, Dry Martini etc) through to the very latest in fashions and styles. However where this book really stands out is in the introduction with a decent description of how to establish a simple bar at home along with a review of some of the more renowned Cocktail Bars across the globe with a good few being in the UK.
Buy it if you just want to lazy away an afternoon or evening imagining your perfect drinks, buy it if you want to start making your own cocktails, buy it if you are established mixologist looking to widen their recipes .... In short BUY IT! >>More Details |

This book is the most comprehensive, entertaining and readable cocktail guide I have come across. Its presentation is excellent and the cross references make it easy to find both innovative and traditional cocktails for every make of alcohol. The details about the ingredients and the methods are clear and informative and I have really learned a lot from it.
