A little too much tofu for my liking. I have to confess that I would only ever use half the recipies in the book, cause some aren't to the British pallet, but overall, a great book for helping you to put flavours together. I have to confess to bending the recipes to suit the ingredients I have in the house, but then that's what a good cook-book should do. Great sections, which divide up the quick meanls from the fancy ones, etc. Always the first book I pull from the shelf when someone's coming to lunch.

Moosewood came into my life by a quirk of fate and literally changed my life. This, in my opinion, is the best of the Moosewood books simply because everything in it is low in fat and high on taste. The clever use of herbs and spices (you will see your store cupboard swell with these) means that there is no reliance on fats to give the flavours. My favourite has to be the Caribbean Stew with Jerk Tofu. I tend to serve this with quinoa. Also, the Almost Fat Free Cornbread is to die for. I have yet to cook a bad meal out of this book and use it at least once a week. The book also contains a break down of nutritional values for every recipe which is useful if you are watching your weight. There is a handy section at the back giving a breakdown of ... Read More:

This latest cookbook from the Moosewood collective is especially strong on soup recipes. Their minestrones are already firm favourites of mine! The Moosewood Collective excell in the creation of delicious vegetarian recipes that are simple to follow and easy to adapt to the ingredients at hand. I own most of their cookbooks & use them far more than any others. Although Americans use a different system of measurements (they meaure things out by volume rather than by weight) it is very easy to learn this system, and well worth the effort as it enables one to cook these delicious meals!

One of the best dessert books I have ever come across, it is busrting with squidgy, creamy things, classics, and variations on classics, vegan things, low fat things, chewy bars for your lunchbox, cheesecakes-a-plenty and the fantastic Italian Fruit Cake, which makes a change from Delia's recipe on Christmas Day. It has a seriously helpful section at the back which lists all the recipes into categories, so that even if you're not quite sure what you're looking for, inspiration is easy to find. The anecdotes from the restaurant itself are lovely too! Highly recommended, just make sure you alternate the squidgy, creamy things with the guiltless low fat treats occasionally!!
