A great book, as a coach I use it regularly for putting together my lesson plans. There are various drills covering the important situations you will find yourself in a match ranging from beginner to professional. However any professional drill can easily be simplified and applied to a player of a lesser standard. As a player, I would describe it as the equivilent of learning the openings of chess or another way is tennis by numbers. Knowing the drills throughly you will know where you put the ball without thinking about it and your opponents likely reply. The information and guidance in this field manual is hard to fault. The US military (particularly its Marine Corps and Special Forces)has long and hard-won experience in counterinsurgency and this manual reflects that. Unfortunately too many of those who conceive and plan military operations have no such experience and neither time nor inclination to read Field Manuals. Academics, students and journalists should read this manual, if only to ponder why so much of it was ignored or over-ridden in the high-level planning phase. Unless you have a willing hitting partner or are a coach i wouldn't suggest buying this book. Having said that, this book does bring to the a table a whole host of useful, unusual and challenging drills. Many of them require four or more players however, which is why i think this book is best suited for a coach who wants to plan a sqaud lesson.

This indispensible publication is the often-referred-to text used by the factory trained techs while servicing your vehicle at the dealership. The illustrations are clear and instructive. Measurements for new and acceptable wear limits are located within each chapter along with torque values. Each chapter is keyed by the subassembly ie. brakes, engine, chassis, etc. If you own Volkswagen products, this manual should be required to ensure you understand how your vehicle should be maintained. (If you do not actually get your hands dirty, consider offering it to your mechanic as a reference!) Bentley manuals are not quite as detailed as typical factory issued motorcycle repair manuals, but run a close second.

One of the reviewers states: "The only down-side is the lack of coverage for the 8V/16v models, and it must be borne in mind that the info. is meant for the U.S Market. Provided you are aware of this, this is an extremely valuable manual, and recommended ." Note well these power units are covered in the Haynes manual for the Golf and Vento '92 to '96 models. This is one of the best books about close combat. The techniques are easy to understand and can be applicated quite easy. The book gives you a good look into the variety of techniques and after studiying it you might have a good base of well-working techniques, that improve your skills of self-defense. I used to train these techniques with my comerades when I was in the army myself- good system that you can rely on. Get this book and start training! >>More Details |
