This is a great read. We got the Withces children visit the Queen from the library and loved it so I decided to get my son (3 years and 3 months old) this too. I am so glad I did. Its a fantastic read, and he loves to end the sentances with 'and that means 'TROUBLE'
The witches children have just enough magical skills to cause chaos, but when asked to put things right they 'cant- havent learned how to do THAT yet'
I love this one so much my son now gets offered. 'OK, which 2 stories apart from The Witches Children do you want tonight?' Luckily he likes it too :-)

This book is absolutely fantastic. The witch's children are out and about catching the bus to the palace and that means trouble. They have the great idea of changing Gemma, a little girl who has forgotten her bus fare, into a goose that lays golden eggs, but they don't know how to turn her back. En route, they magic the bus and passengers into a wondrous flying carpetful of sultan and courtiers which flies to the palace and causes havoc. The Queen and the Duke (a very familiar looking duo with their little dog) think enough is enough and so the children summon their mother to put things right. It's a hilarious lively story for children aged 3 plus and their parents, and the funky stylized illustrations are every bit as marvellous. If you loved ... Read More:

After reading all Harry Potter Books my son and myself needed more so we tried these books. Witch Week was funny and easier to read than the Harry Potter Books. We were both very impressed and are going to read more of Diana Wynne Jones books. This like Harry Potter takes place in a school which is what appealed to my 8year old, and some of the book made us laugh out loud.

Everyone has one -- an older relative who disapproves of you unless you do what she wishes, and isn't nearly as nice as she pretends to be.
But "Aunt Maria" turns out to be even worse than your average relative, in this engaging, humourous and chilling fantasy novel. Diana Wynne-Jones spins a fantastical story of witchcraft and revenge, all centering on the elderly lady who sweetly lords it over Cranbury-on-Sea.
After her father is apparently killed in a car accident, Mig and her family go to stay with Aunt Maria, mainly because her mother feels guilty. Aunt Maria is very prim and very sweet, and makes a point of guilting people into doing what she wants. Life revolves around Aunt Maria's tea parties, and the men ... Read More:
