A little boy who only wants to eat chips is sent into the garden and told he can eat anything he finds! Interesting to see what he tries on his quest to find chips!
Quite an old book but lots of fun.
Unusual pictures.

I bought this book for my two boys who are six and seven years old, it looked great to me. Unfortunately after reading a few of the stories my boys said the book was just plain boring! Maybe it would be better suited for girls??? there are so many lovely books out there and I liked the idea of having lots of different stories all in one book, but it didn't work this time !!!

Unfortunately I was encouraged to read by my parents. Unfortunately, ONLY because I learned to read quickly and missed out on the pleasures of "children's" books - I am grateful I was taught to READ. I was given, and read, "adult" books from the age of, about. 5/6. My birthday present for my 8th birthday was "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" (In English but unabridged) 'cos the Disney film had just been released. I had never read "children's" books. I only read "The Wind In The Willows" round about 1999/2000 when I was 50ish and I was amazed - what had I missed out? So I started hunting, "Railway Children"," Travels of Oggy", "Black Beauty", "Killer Cat" etc. Then I recently (2008) found this. The story, and the telling, are wonderful. ... Read More:

These books are just great for introducing a healthy lifestyle. I've always been a fan of 'Oliver's vegetables'; but now i've found 'Oliver's milkshake' and 'Oliver's fruit salad'!
I teach 4 and 5 year olds, they can really understand Oliver and his thoughts. They love the bright pictures and easy to understand text.
Another great read from Vivian French!

After hearing this being read to a class, I knew I had to get it for my daughter and I to read together. This has been one of the most enjoyable books we have read together for along time!!! I don't know who has enjoyed it more!! It's very well written, the more you read, the more you want to read, you don't want to stop reading, but you don't want the book to end either! It has the most wonderful characters, with great personalities, it's funny, moving and has a troll that is really endearing. I would say this was a new lean on the good fashioned fairy tale, but one that is written for children and adults alike. I think that this will become a firm favourite with most people. I hope the new book is as good as this one!Mind you it has a lot ... Read More:

This is such a great collection of stories, that we have given it to at least a dozen children of family and friends. The stories are clever, original and have enough magic for mystery, but not so much as to take away from the real hopes and fears of the characters. You can read them again and again and be delighted. A fantastic bedtime storybook.
