My mother having pressed me to read this book, I finally got round to it early this year. Thank God I did.
I cannot begin to put into words how much this book touched me. Vera Brittan must be an inspiration to all women; a strong and determined character who, despite losing almost everything to the War, did not give up. Vera Brittan was a young, ambitious girl growing up pre-war with aspirations to go to University (something uncommon for the day.) She succeeded in getting into Oxford to study English. Then the War came crashing into her life, and Vera's brother and friends get called up to fight. She herself finds her place, working as a nurse first in London, then abroad. Vera Brittan lost so much to this horrific War and yet still ... Read More:

Let me just say one thing; I am an avid reader. I love books. Whenever I begin reading, I cannot stop halfway through, even if it is an absolutely awful book. However, this book went beyond awful. It was so far past awful it made me want to throw up (and I wish I were exaggerating). Not just because the book is basically a doctoral thesis on human psychology wrapped in a plot stolen from 'The Coral Island', but mainly because it makes no sense.
Let's start at the beginning: The arrival. The pilot manages to safely land the plane on the one island in the middle of nowhere, while the cockpit is on fire. Having done this, the several tonne plane then washes out to sea, after all the boys have left, without a scratch on them. Not even a bruise, ... Read More:

Have suffered from depression for over 30 years on and off! . . I am not sure if a book can help. I have read loads and still find that if I am kind to myself and allow the depression to run its course, don't fight it or hide from it. (AND DON'T FEEL GUILTY ABOUT IT.) Then this too will pass. We each have to find our own way through our maze! Do we not. I wish all who are depressed a brighter future. Open your heart and let yourself in! (I FIND MEDITATION HELPS THE MOST. .JUST CLOSE YOUR EYES AND BREATH. ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE WHO YOU ARE. FIRST STEP IS TO LEARN HOW TO EXCEPT YOURSELF AS YOU ARE, THEN MAYBE ADMIT YOU NEED HELP. GOOD LUCK TO ALL. This is a real good book to start with. Then maybe you could find a Buddhist meditation group and join . It will help ... Read More:

I bought this book to fill gaps in my historical knowledge and the introduction mentions that the contents are for everyone who is interested in history but frightened of the fog! It lifts the fog completely, is beautifully written, concise and easy to follow putting history in a chronological perspective.
I am still enjoying dipping in and out of its excellent selection of events and thoroughly recommend it.

As a Welshman and a huge rugby fan I obviously think Shane Williams is some sort of god. However, when I got this book as a gift I was just thought "why?" how interesting could it really be?! I read the first chapter about the recent tour to South Africa, which was brilliantly written, but i thought it was just what i had expected, Shane Williams writing about rugby. But after this there isn't really much talk of rugby, well, there obviously is, but not in the manner you would've thought. The route that he took to get to be the superstar he is today is not a clear-cut as you would think.
Once i picked the book up, i read it for literally hours on end. It really is a fantastic book. I would highly suggest if you're a rugby fan like me.....except yours will not ... Read More:

This book is an absolute must have for all Bond/Craig fans. The photos are stunning, high quality and rarely seen elsewhere.
The book is divided into chapters from all the locations they shoot Quantum of Solace....
Even more enjoyable after you have seen the film...And the price is just too low for a book like this. It's my favourite coffee table book so far!!!

This is a very usefull book for those just thinking of or beginning to keep pet chickens, it gives a short guide to the most popular breeds, good housing advice, and also pointers on keeping your flock happy and healthy. The only downfall I think is that it falls short on advice on sexing your chicks, I would have found that really usefull as my hens hatched 5 this summer. However, I recommend this book to all backyard flock keepers!
