Get the Life You Love and Live it

Being of Indian origin myself, I am familiar with the daily challenges of life in India. So when I first started reading this book, I found some of the anecdotes of Indian life quite funny.

However for me the book ran out of humour and steam halfway and it was a little disappointing ending. Balram's rise to wealth, power and success is not convincing enough and there is little sign of repentance on his part about how he acquired his wealth and at the perceived cost to his family. Or maybe that is just the idealist in me coming through.

I have no doubt that this is how life is in modern India with the rich having far more than the poor than ever before. So in this sense this book ... Read More:

Due to the acclaims given to this novel, I expected something truly unique; especially due to the interesting narrative - death. However, I couldn't be more disappointed if I tried.

I have read my fair share of books and I am also currently studying Nazi Germany, so I have some insight into Germany around the time in the novel. Before I delved into this book, I thought it sounded incredibly interesting; the narrative was different, the setting and date was at a time of interest and the mystery seemed to be lurking from the synopsis on the back. However, instead of feeling like I was connecting with the characters and enjoying the story line, I felt like I was being taught a History lesson into Nazi Germany all over again.

Now don't ... Read More:

Had this book bought for me as a birthday present, and to be honest I wasn't looking forward to reading it, I was put off by the thought of reading about wars..
However I've just finished the book. I read it in one day as I was completely unable to put it down. Totally gripping and moving. A real insight to a place which we only hear about on the news.
I'm now going to buy the kite runner.

This book was recommended to me by my mum who kept going on about how it was the best book she had ever read so I decided I'd give it a go after reading through the first chapter of The House At Riverton in a book shop and deciding I liked the authors style of writing.

I absolutely loved the way that the book interweaved the different characters throughout the novel and didn't find it too difficult to get to grips with different chapters being set in different time frames, if anything I found the variety nice and it kept the book moving along building the story beautifully to it's conclusion.

Throughout this book I kept trying to second guess what the authors intended plot was going to be, she continually surprised me and moved the goalposts ... Read More:

A lot of novels are "worthy" but you need to put a lot of effort into getting the most out of them; others are page-turners and pass the time easily and pleasurably, but don't do much else. The Kite Runner has that rare quality of being both worthy and a page-turner - and you learn a good slice about Afghan culture to boot. It's a very concisely written novel which tells a fascinating story and which contains sharply-observed characters that you come to really care about; the author's honesty shines through from start to finish.

I have read all of Martina Cole's books and, up until her last, Faces, I have always found them an excellent read but sadly 'The Business' is actually the worse of them all.

The whole story could have been written in half the number of pages. Really boring.

Glad I borrowed the from the library and didn't spend money on it.

I agree with other reviewers, it feels as if Martina has given up trying as she knows that her name will sell the book.

I for one won't bother with the next one.

Alan Bennett has discovered a latent royalist tendency with this little gem, Her Majesty being portrayed as, in this one respect at least - a reader, nay devourer of books, whatever next - just like us. It won't do, can't be allowed actually. I chuckled and chortled and laughed out loud and was cheering every successful subterfuge. It's a book that makes you feel good.

Wow, what a departure from the usual Alex Cross books. Unfortunately the change doesn't work. This could have been any book and just happens to have the name Alex Cross as the main character. His reasons for goign to Africa are tenuous at best and his reasons for staying outlandish. Cross constantly goes on about his familybut then abandons them to go chasing round the world to avenge a college friend he hasn't seen in 20 years.

Not the best Cross book. If you're new to the series start with the earlier ones.
