I was worried that this wouldnt work for me. I have smoked for 5 years, and have tried to stop maybe 4 times for differing lengths of time. I would be proud of days that I went a day without a fag; it showed strength of willpower i suppose.
I read the 1 star reviews about this book, and they confirmed what I felt must be true all along - this must be too good to be true. What I now believe having read the book, and extinguished the final cigarette, is that these people do not want to give up. No book, no program, no person in this world is going to make you stop smoking - except yourself.
So the way in which this book works. Well, as a smoker, you are aware of why you shouldn't smoke; i.e. the disadvantages. ... Read More:

Have had every edition and I still carry a copy in my bag. Anyone doing acute takes who thinks they don't need to reflect on some aspects of some cases will come to grief. I am reassured when I see junior docs carrying a well worn copy.

Firstly Ignore the Negative Reviews.
I am a Medical Applicant(A Levels), and this book is brilliant.
It covers all the most asked medical interview questions as well as some thought provoking ethical and difficult situation questions.
It guides you through what points to include as well as sample answers for each of the 151 questions.
However it also provides the information in such a way that is provokes you into thought and you come up with answers better than the sample ones.

I bought this book in my first year of nursing, and i am currently in my third year and it still comes in incredibly handy!!! Its basic layman's terms and bright images, make the most complicated anatomy subjects plain, simple and easy to remember! It takes every part of the body and brakes it down! Its great for interest and for learning! If you just want to make a quick reference to something it comes in great!! I urge all nursing students to pick one up, as it contains simple explanations to the questions you may feel embarrased to ask!!! Dont waste your money on books you'll never use again, spend it wisely and for £9.99, its a BARGAIN!!! BRILLIANT!

I never thought I'd enjoy a book about human waste - but this book has proven that a good author can tell a fascinating story about anything. I think Rose George is very brave for addressing a very unsexy subject -- and the facts are powerful: what good is clean drinking water if 2.6 billion people in this world live in contaminated environments due to their own lack of toilets? This is thought-provoking stuff which - if taken seriously and acted upon - could change the lives of billions...

I bought this book for my 13 year old, what a well written funny book. It is written in an informative yet relaxed way that most normal teenagers will understand. Although we have a relaxed approach to answering sex questions there are some things a teenage boy just cant ask his parents, this book filled in the gaps. Buy it !

Discovered this book by chance browsing yet again for something new. A deceptively simple book and technique that is truly wise in that the more you study, the more you realise and learn. Gillian convincingly purports the should -be -obvious truth that the way you eat, not what you weigh is the root of the problem then explores this with great wisdom and insight using an addiction model. Initially like some other reviewers i wondered if this too "would not work" for my weight, then realised that my weight had stopped yoyoing by its usual stone, after 10 months it is now starting to drop steadily though slowly in a way I am confident can be sustained. Like anything lasting, authentic and worthwhile it takes sustained and mindful effort to put the techniques into practice ... Read More:

This is the second time I have bought this book. I lent it to a friend and never got it back. I have found it invaluable for my MSc and my friend found it a great help for her BSc (obviously!). I highly recommend it to anyone who needs to be able to critically appraise medical literature.

An absolutely vital handbook that helped me significantly through medical school. Although it's nowhere near as comprehensive as separate textbooks are, it's an invaluable aide memoir that does go into significant detail.
