This book should be taught at school, it amazes me how I got to my 30's without this fundamental knowledge of my body. Every woman should read this book, regardless of whether you are trying to start a family or not. If you are planning to start a family then this must be the most effective form of pregnancy achievement (I conceived my first cycle of charting following reading the book).

I did want to give up smoking, but kept making excuses to carry on, like "I'm stressed because of the divorce" or "I might as well smoke while I'm working away because I'm bored and lonely" etc etc. Apparently us women are masters at creating excuses to justify the habit (well I know that's true for me). Allen Carr's book dispelled a lot of the myths attached to smoking. The most surprising one for me is the "withdrawal of nicotine" myth. I wasn't a heavy smoker (not that this makes a jot of difference) but I did smoke 10-15 a day, and more if I was out drinking or on holiday. I'm five days in and haven't had a single "craving" no nicotine withdrawal at all. Also I just cannot see the point in smoking anymore. I am a very happy non-smoker. It ... Read More:

It may seem odd that I, a man, should write that this book probably saved my life, but it's my very stong belief that this is the case.
In April 2005 I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, advanced, inoperable, and my prognosis was very bleak - perhaps 2 or 3 years to live. I had only just celebrated my 54th birthday two weeks earlier.
All I can say is thank heavens for the internet.
After leaving the hospital, still reeling from the shocking news, I sat at the computer and began to research the illness. I spent every waking hour delving through research papers and any new treatments that might possibly be available to me.
Within a few days I discovered the work of Prof. Jane Plant, and her theories on ... Read More:

I bought this book with good intentions to do my exercises. I haven't done any yet despite being 18 weeks preggers with twins! So the book arrived and I felt a bit cheated for the price. I expected good quality pictures of examples of exercises and clear bullet pointed suggestions. Maybe I'm just too lazy with an attention span of a kitten, but I found the yellowed pages with drawings that looked like the book had come from the seventies, a bit boring. The book went into a corner, never to be opened again; partly my fault for being a lazy cow, partly the books fault for being boring.
After a gap of several years I decided to start running again. I started but felt I needed some expert advice to keep me motivated and being a reader I had a look in my local library.
I read several books on running before this one but most were from a male perspective. I was not at the stage of competing but wanted to a book that would take me from the beginning all the way through to competing when I'm ready for that. This IS that book! It covers everything from stretches specific to women and even running through the menopause.
If you are looking for a book to start you off or a good reference book to flick through then I think you'll be hard pushed to find a better one. A couple of months in and I'm still running and read sections of this before going ... Read More:

If you've just been diagnosed check out other books BEFORE you buy this one. This is a great book but it's quite complex and off-putting by the sheer size alone.
There are 3 parts to the book (with 12 chapters in total): nutritional healing for PCOS, tackling your problems and prepare for success.
Whilst it is a great book my life wouldn't have been missing anything if I hadn't have bought it. The appendix is extremely useful as it summarises a lot of information that is available on the internet. Likewise, the suggested reading also provides useful material.

I had three miscarriages before I found this book. After blood tests and a course of treatment I conceived and carried to term for the first time in 5 years. This book is the best ever written on the subject and all doctors should have a copy. IVF does not prevent miscarriage, it just makes it more expensive. Save yourself from more heartache and pain and read this book. Infertility, IVF failure and miscarriage happen for a reason and now you can discover what it is and get treatment to stop it happening again. I now have two beautiful baby boys.

Marilyn Glenville covers in her book everything you always wanted to know about HRT and the menopause. She is critical of the medicalisation of the menopause, the view that it is something like a (hormone-) deficiency disease rather than a very natural phase of every woman's life. She assesses the pros and cons of HRT in detail and objectively, covering its known side effects - some of which ironically are identical to some menopausal symptoms -, as well as osteoporosis, breast cancer and heart disease. Another chapter is dedicated to the critical review of "natural" progesterone.
What makes this book so valuable is the main part though in which Glenville explains the benefits of good nutrition and offers natural treatment options for common menopausal problems such as breast tenderness, ... Read More:
