Sorry it's taken me so long to get this review written but Bridgette Bardot put me in a time capsule with a drawing of an orange cat holding an air rifle.
A great excuse, I know. It's not mine I'm afraid but just one from Vince's Book of Excuses for Being Late Volume III, one of many tiny treats housed within this incredible tome - as just one slurp from a whole selection of soups.
Some of the other instructional passages in this book are Bob Fossil's A-Z of Animals (where the elephant is `Grey leg-face man'), The Phases of the Moon (`The full moon, the main moon, the chalky white ball-bag hanging in the sky like a screwed up letter from a paedophile'), Eleanor's Top Sexpressions (`Turn me over and record all over my ... This book is brilliant for some me-time/time-wasting evenings. I read it over two short evenings when my husband was gaming on the X-Box. It would be equally good on holiday instead of chick-lit or on a wet Saturday afternoon when the children often need attention and you don't want to get into a gripping novel. The chapters are short and therefore not so involved that you want to carry on reading to the exclusion of all else. The book is sometimes informative, but often so laugh-out-loud that the afore-mentioned husband looked away from his gaming a number of times to ask what I had just read.
In short, not great literature (I don't imagine that Mr. Clarkson intended it to be so), but funny, escapist and a great way to fill in ... Read More:

What a great book - packed with gems of wit and wisdom. Only the interesting-facts QI team could deliver such a great collection and do it so well. Clearly a real labour of love for those who put it together.
A veritable treasure trove. An ideal present for almost anyone on almost any occasion.

I love buying these kinds of books for presents - you can read them first before wrapping-up! I bought this along with a Joined-Up Thinking by Colgan (Stephen Fry gave a quote on the front cover) and both books entertained me hugely on these cold, wet, darker days. great stuff.

As a huge fan of Mock the Week, I was looking forward to seeing what this book had to offer, and to be fair it's not bad. There's a few funny lines, but it's a million miles away from the dry wit that features on the TV show.
It's obvious that the likes of Russell Howard, Dara O'brien, Hugh Dennis and the legendary Frankie Boyle were nowhere near the room where this was written.
All in all, its an OK read with a few funny bits, but it gets a bit repeatitive and it lacks the creativity and whit that you'd expect from MTW.

As the sun sets on the old millennium (or is it just the first year of the new millennium? I'm too old to remember) the Private Eye team, headed by editor Ian Hislop, show once and for all that they are far superior to Mohammed Al-Fugger's millions of unsold copies of the humorous magazine 'Punch'. That glossy rag is only one of the Eye's favourite targets, along with countless others that are guaranteed to make your in-jokes unintelligible to dinner-party guests. Buy two and give one to your partner - so there's someone else who'll understand your references. Private Eye mocks so many areas of society and political views that one has to wonder whether contributors have any beliefs at all. Lookalikes, E.J. Thribb poems, I-Spy and newspaper cuttings all appear ... Read More:
